    Controller for Braemar TH420 (heating) and/or Breezair EXH170 (cooling)

    Hi there,

    I've just had a quote from Coldflow to supply and install:

    Braemar 420 (In roof Gas Ducted Heating) 18kw with Spectrolink multi zone controller 8 outlets - $4000

    Breezair EXH170 (In roof Evaporative ducted cooling) 12.6 kw 5 outlets, standard controller - $4290

    1st Question: Does this seem like a decent price for the above?

    2nd, 2rd, 4th Question: and more importantly, Does anybody have any experience / information about which HVAC controller (preferably Z-wave) I could use with these systems? How on earth could I find out? Would I definitely need separate controller for each system?

    I plan to call the company and ask if they have any idea (the sales engineer that came out was an ex-electrician and had quite an interest in my home automation system so he might be helpful).

    Thanks so much in advance for any info / assistance, even a push in the right direction would be so helpful!

I know the Breezair Horizon remote (http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Breezair-...-/190755045688) would be fine because the Logitech Harmony remote is able to communicate with the system. Does this sound plausible? If it is I'd still be able to control both system (from what I can tell, I just wouldn't be able to monitor them so closely from within homeseer) and keep my warranty..       I know this is an old post, but thought i would also mirror what you mentioned. I have a Braemar four star ducted heating system and was hopeful I might be able to install a wifi thermostat on it. Technically you can in that there is a manual output for a thermostat however in doing this you lose any decent features of the heater system itself, e.g. you can't manually control the fan, and the thermostat just works On / Off at a given temperature. The lack of fan control was the real kick for me, as for some using these systems to ventilate is quite common (as I do), however the system does not allow it.

      Based on the above, having loom digital wiring, and also very poor integration options I would not recommend the Braemar four star or higher range if you are looking at integrating this with Home Automation systems.
      HS3 PRO, Win10, WeatherXML, HSTouch, Pushover, UltraGCIR, Heaps of Jon00 Plugins, Just sold and about to move so very slim system.

        Hi Travis,

        Thanks for your reply and info. I've gone ahead an bought the Breezair EXH 170 for cooling (getting ready for summer) with the Horizon Remote. The Horizon Remote communicates via RF so I plan on using something like the technique here http://rayshobby.net/?p=3381 to capture and decode to the signal and then work out the best way to transmit it with homeseer, probably something like http://www.rfxcom.com/store/Transceivers/12103 What do you think?

        What sort of remote does the Braemar have? Is it IR? If not can you get one? If so you could easily capture the codes...

          To my knowledge the Braemar device does not have a remote control, it has a digital thermostat which you can control but it is not IR, or RF or anything like that.

          In regards to the RF remote, i think it might not be as simple as you would like to get control. Bert's RFXCOM device is fantastic, and there is a tx version however the signals that are sent have to be programmed, that is the protocol needs to be added to the device by the manufacturer. It is not a case of reverse engineering the AC / heater and using the rfxcom device to control it. You could potentially use an Arduino if you were able to reverse engineer and do it that way but it would be no easy task!

          If the remote was IR based, it would be far easier since you could use an IR transmitter to copy the remote and control it that way.

          What would be ideal is if the common AC / heater units used the 24v wiring but sadly they dont
