    Hometroller Zee and Z-troller controller

I am interested in buying the hometroller zee as a replacement to my existing windows system which uses a z-troller for z-wave communication. I am curious if the hometroller zee works with the Z-troller controller or only with the z-stick?

How about HomeTroller Zee with USB to serial cable support

Okay well I was really hoping for some guidance but lets try this....

Has anyone tried the HomeTroller Zee with a USB to Serial cable to see if it works?

I haven't actually tried it, but I believe it does work with USB to Serial.

Back in June or July I tried connecting a z-troller to a MCV (version 1) using an FTDI convert cable, and that definitely *didn't* work. I don't know if there was a fault in the z-troller that was just waiting to happen, or some other factor was involved, but it instantly and totally bricked the z-troller.

Anyhow, I can see why Johnny would rather use a z-troller than a z-stick. Having tried both, z-trollers are way better.

Because of the above, the OP's question deserves a real answer rather than a "Why not try it?" type answer. Surely, someone at HS has already tried connecting a Zee with a z-troller and actually knows the answer?

RMasonJR is using the Z-Troller with the ZEE.

That said the Zee comes with an Aeon stick (Z-Stick) and I have been using it with that.

The drop down configuration on the Zee shows the Z-Troller as an option.

I am using the Z-Troller with the HS3 build on another box.

The Z-Troller is plugged into a Quatech serial server and it works fine; unless you disconnect it or you have a network problem.

I have not had any issues though using standard RS-232 to USB cables except for one maybe.

That said though I still rely mostly on my Digi Edgeport boxes which work flawlessly and now for many years. (I have two of these - 16 serial ports - connected to my HS2 boxes and do just fine).

Yep - what Pete said - I started out with the ZStick, but moved to a ZTroller with a TU-S9 serial adapter. Works great.
