    Nature is mysterious

My wife hung a decorative wreath on our front door. It has fake magnolia flowers and a bird's nest. The nest appears to be built by a real bird, but it had two very fake eggs in it.

A week or so ago we noticed a house finch was paying very close attention to the nest, even sitting in it. Then we noticed that the fake eggs had disappeared. They have now been replaced by much smaller fresh eggs. Two were there yesterday, three today.

I have not been successful getting a picture of the bird on the nest, but did get a picture of the eggs.

      Amazing!

I did hear a story about plastic trees being used to hide cellular radio masts. These trees eventually provided homes for bird nests.

        Follow up

There were four eggs total. Three hatched. Fledged today (day 15).
I am utterly amazed that they pulled it off given the location and the recurring interruptions from everything from package deliveries to people peering in to look at the chicks.
Some pictures taken from inside are not very good because of reflections off the glass and sever back lighting, but the best I could do.
        Pictures, in order.

First to fledge safely in a tree.
