ZMC v4 - Whole house audio for HS3

Long time users of this forum knows already about ZMC v3 for doing whole house audio and VR cheaply. ( http://www.zoelen.net/ZMC.htm )

However, while this script is great it got a real problem and that is that doesn't run on HS3. That has changed now!
I've rewritten big parts of the script to make it function under HS3. But even more, It now supports also multiple units so if you need up to 96 outputs then here you have it.

So what is possible with this version?

    - Runs in HomeSeer 3
    - Control up to 8 units (AP400, AP800, XAP400 or XAP800)
    - Max. number of outputs is 96(or 64 when using XAP400)
    - Max number of microphones is 8
    - Added a setup to create all the devices for you
    - Simplified the configuration
    - Added StartMediaPlayer call
    - Added RestoreUnit call

    4.1.5 - 21 Sept 2018
    A few changes and adons
ZIP with script and details included ZMC v4.1.5.zip

    ' 4.0.4 - 15 Sep 2015
' There is a difference between the way how a conversion
' to an integer is done amongst the different scripting
' engines used in HS3 or the OS. Tried to make this
    ' more robust

    ' Version
    ' 4.0.3 - 29 Aug 2015
' Conversion to integer bug prevented to calculate the
' correct unitID in some instances.
    ' Code refactoring
    '
    ' 4.0.2 - 15 Aug 2015
' Added extra check to catch the 'Room not found' case and
' trying to resolve it without error.
' (Documentation) Added StartVR and EndVR to the list of
    ' implemented unit calls.
    '
    ' 4.0.1 - 12 Aug 2015
' Setup contained 2 wrong references for Telco and VR devices

Latest revision of the script : 4.0.4

Thank You! I have been in the process of switching my system from HS2 to HS3 and watching these threads closely. Hoping/Waiting patiently to see if this would happen. Literally just bought two XAP800's on eBay after reading this

      Thanks,
      Dave

        Thank you so much!!
My xap800s have cleared custom and am planning to wire the bedroom this weekend.

Btw, for those getting multiple XAP800s, remember to buy units with (rj45) terminators.

Wow - What a Great Addition

I received my XAP800 on Saturday and set it up over the weekend.

I have to say, anyone out there that has HS and hasn't purchased one of this amazing units needs to head straight to ebay! I can't believe the quality for the current price!

I've noticed a couple of things that need correcting in the write-up.

          1) connect should say Function -> Connect, Params -> None (it currently reads Function -> Main, Params -> Connect

          2) same with disconnect... it should read Function->Disconnect, Params->None

Thanks for the excellent script and write-up... it made setup very easy!

I think he updated the setup notes to reflect the connect and disconnect parameters.

Got mine running on the desk and now will move them to the electrical room. There I have homeruns of Cat 6 going to every room. So far I think I'm upto 50 homeruns, so I will use 1 cat6 cable to distribute line-in audio to small amplifers which are connected to speakers.

Being there 4 twisted pair in each Cat6, I can also use other pairs for mic and amp switching on/off.

Ordered 2 different amps for less than $5 off eBay. The smaller one which is 10watt X2 channel, has power switching function to reduce energy when amp is not needed. Once I receive the amps I'll test with my killawatt tester to define how much parasitic draw when not in use. That should define if I bother with the power switching.

The other amp is 15watt X 2 channel and I'm also looking at 50watt models also but have not placed order yet.

Well, after the above post, I thought I would drop the order on the 50watt X 2 channel. (It's actually 40x2 @ 8ohm).

Here's the amps I bought that range from $3-$8 a pc. Once I receive I'll reply back with reviews and opinion when used with the xap800s.

                Hey Bram

I think the links on the download page are mixed up.
There are two links pointing to the same .zip file.
There is no link pointing to zip file that includes folders and ini file.

Or am i looking at the wrong place?

                Thanks

                  Thanks all for the updates.

                  I've corrected the setup notes.

The download link is something i will correct this evening. Although i tested the link it seems not to work for most of us, including me from my work location.

For now you can use http://www.zoelen.net/site/Uploads/ and look for the file there

Hey Charlie, how are you with the amps?

I'm 85% happy with the output for the most part (the house is generally pretty quiet), but I worry about noise/distortions if I need to push the loudness up. I've been testing with line-in from a TV and the HomeSeer server (USB audio stck)... at first I wired them through the mic input (input 1-8) and got horribly crackling noises, I thought I had a defective unit... it got much better after turning down the gain.

Also, what mics are you using with your setup? Are you happy with them?

I just got the first amp in the mail today so within the next week I'll be testing.

I'm gonna start first with various small used speakers in the bedrooms. We have CAT6 jacks near every bed and will use them for line in/out.

The speakers and amps will be under the bed facing outward, and I was thinking of placing a mic on top of the headboard. It's my thought this approach will help reduce noise when trying to use wakeup words for HS. If your in the bedroom your most likely in bed placing the mic only 2 foot from us.

I haven't chosen a mic yet, but will probily just start testing with a spare headset mic I have. Might also look on amazon as most things are only 2 days away.

Well, just took the plunge on a cheap mic. Looks like this one will mount or lay on the top of the head boards nicely. Also one reviewer did a video review reading a book into the mic and had background music playing from his pc speakers in front of him. It did just OK, but considering the placement of my speakers wont be directly in front of the mic, I'm optimistic it will perform better. Here's the link and I'll post back once this is running. Should be done within the the next 4-5 days.

                          The mic is only $9.

                            @CharlieWayne:
Sounds good. I think I'm sticking with unamped for now. I still get bad distortion when playing low freq sound... but the primary function is voice announcements and it works well for that; and if I decide to use this for BGM, it'll probably light music (w/o bass) anyway.

I've seen this array microphone mentioned a few times; might be worth checking out: http://www.amazon.com/Andrea-2S-Supe.../dp/B00FCLIE78

@AshaiRey: I've wired some PZM-11 mics that I've already had for awhile (recommended from the 'previous' AP800 install thread by pkoslow; circa 2005) and I can see the XAP800 input activity lights triggered whenever I generate noise near the mics, but I can't direct the input to HS3 (nor any other speakers) to test yet.... What am I doing wrong? Is this a gating issue and should I unplug all the other mics or is it enough just to mute them?

Do you get any distortions on certain type of sound/music with your setup? Am I setting mine wrong?

In the XAP800 there are "Gain Settings" that can be manually adjusted from the front panel. I've played with them and cranked them up and was able to reproduce your complaint. Try and lower the gain of the output channel and if still an issue to the gain on the input.

When you lower the gain the distortion will go away, but the loudness will be reduced probably then making the $3 amplifiers more attractive.

I dont recall seeing any gain settings in Brams scripts, but really I wasn't looking for that either..

If this mic doesnt work out, I will order that one you suggested. Really I dont think we need to get into the $100 plus mics for this project.
