    Thank You Homeseer

On January 1, 2000 my X10 lights did not turn on, thanks to Y2K and bad programming in the Radio Shack software I used. It was then I discovered Homeseer.

Homeseer opened up a universe of home automation for me. Over the course of the fifteen plus years I had automated anything that could be automated, written scripts late into the night to solve the most challenging projects, built a wire closet with lots of hardware and enjoyed sharing ideas with many others on this forum that had common interests.

The support and continuing improvements to Homeseer coupled with its ultimate in flexibility always kept me around. I believe it is the ultimate home automation tool.

Yet things change. My home automation has been scaled down considerably in the past 4 or 5 years and priorities are different now. Consequently I have purchased a different home automation device.

I know it sounds really geeky, but I will truly be sad when the HS box in the closet is soon shutdown for good. It has faithfully controlled the house for so long (I hear the echoes of asking HAL to close the pod bay doors - LOL).

Of course I'll still drop by the forum to lurk and see what's new. But for now I wanted to say thanks to all the "old timers" here and to the Homeseer team for their years of creative genius and terrific support.

    Best regards,

Out of curiosity, which way did you go? I know there are a lot of options now compared to when I started in 2003. For some, the current options may be enough... for those geeks that want to automate/monitor everything, HS is still the best.

        HI Robert,

Yeah my needs are mostly reduced to having lights go on and off, not much more. I'm going to use the Samsung Smart Things hub.

Sorry to see you go... I looked at Smart Things as well before I went with HS3. I had a lot of trouble with the upgrade from HS1 to HS2 but HS3 has been pretty darn good. Just working out a few kinks.

Please come back to check in from time to time. I tend to "set it and forget it" but will try to be more active in the community going forward.

Thanks Planetview. I had thought about HS3 when it was originally released, but HS2 had been faithfully running for so many years without fail, so I didn't see a need for change.

I lost track of how many years that HS2 had been running here without interruption (minus power outages), rather impressive all things considered.
