    Inputs damaged?

    I mis-read and connected 12 volts to digital inputs 0 and 1, and now they don't work even when correctly hooked to 5 volts. Inputs 2-7 still work (since I didn't screw up with those).

    Am I just stuck with a 6-input ADIO? Or is there some internal fuse or something that can be repaired?

    Well, let this be a cautionary tale for other users. Even someone with a EE degree can make simple screw-ups!

    I know zilch about the unit but somewhere in the depths of the forum I believe there is the real name of the make/model of the unit and I am sure on their website I may have seen a circuit diagram or a picture of the PCB. If you search around you may find it...if so I think that the inputs were straight to the PIC because it was something I noticed and something I have worried about myself when building things before.

        I've used the Industrologic microcontrollers a long time ago -- really liked them. Very, very solid, and super easy to program (a rudimentary form of BASIC).

          I believe you are correct. I took mine apart and with a quick look didn't see zeners, caps or any input conditioning between the terminals and the controller. Dead inputs are likely the sign of a damaged controller. At the time I was trying ADIO-100s the HS3 plug-in also was not mature enough to handle two ADIO-100s at the same time.


          It was at that time I switched to Arduinos and EnigmaTheatre's excellent plug in. I was able to build my own input conditioning, got the benefit of an Ethernet interface, a OneWire interface, an LCD display and ended up with 40+ digital inputs or outputs and another 16 analog or digital inputs. Arduinos are notoriously robust, reliable and inexpensive. The plug-in is probably one of the best I have in terms of flexibility, ease of use and function.
