Jogglers running Windows 10 32 bit

Today installed 32 bit Windows 10 on a modded Joggler (OpenPeak) device.

It runs better than W7, W8 or W8.1.

Not faster though than XP Embedded or W7 Embedded.

Relating to using the wireless that is built in there are no issues. The Gb NIC doesn't have a bios but you can trick it to working. If I could find the Realtek NIC bios writer then that issue would be fixed. Sound wasn't an issue after installation of the HD audio drivers. There are two audio chips in the Joggler I am using here and the default installation installed audio on the second audio chip.

Have you run HS touch on it?

Yes and it works fine in tablet mode or if tablet mode is off. I also run HSTouch on a PipoX7/W10 connected to a 17" multitouch monitor and it works fine (with a Kinect and the Alexa Plugin).

Might give Alexa a go on the Joggler I am using as it also has a built in microphone.

Started from scratch today building a lighter W10 stripping it of the fluff.

Currently it is at around 8Gb of 16Gb with HSTouch, HS Speaker and Neospeech TTS.

W10 does a bit better with video than XPe using the base Intel HD video drivers built in to the Joggler.

I went to testing out Windows 8 embedded and really didn't like it.

I went back to playing with Windows 10 tweaked.

Base here is Windows 10 enterprise stripped of any chatty kathy stuff. Trying.

It does want to reinstall basics. That said it is running Homeseer 3, Speaker dot exe, SAPI and other stuff well these days.

For testing purposes I am using a 64 Gb SSD card rather than a 16 or 32Gb SSD. The OS basics are still way under 16Gb at this time.

Video stuff seems a bit quicker than running in XPe. I am also running zmNinja and it runs well and is the ultimate interface today for Zoneminder.

I removed most of the metro applications, any services that continuously talk to the internet, et al leaving just core of W10 running.

Nice work Pete! Would it be possible to win 10 on a jogger with stock specs? If so would it be slow?

The O2 Joggler doesn't have a ZIF / Pata connector so you would have to run the OS off a USB stick. This is way too slow. The traces are there to solder a PATA port. It is difficult to do this.

This device is an Openpeak device with a bunch of extra stuff. IE: it has a DECT chip, Zigbee chip, ZIF PATA connector, microphone, metal heatsink , et al.

The two Openpeak devices (not Jogglers) are better as they were designed to be VOIP kiosks or energy thermostat controllers.

It runs Linux, Android, MAC or Wintel off of the PATA drive way faster and better than a USB stick based OS.

Originally tested an off the shelf W10 ISO install and it did work fine except for...

a multitude of tablet like services that connect to the microsoft cloud that utilize more resources than the core which does slow down the Joggler.

Using a couple of different utiliites stripped down the W10 build to a simple core. It is a PITA because even though you have administrative rights; it doesn't allow you to remove stuff easily.

That said I think now I have been able to remove some 90% of the internet chatty kathy stuff and running just the W10 core pieces and it looks good.

Right now Homeseer 3 touch is running as fast as the embedded XPe and W7 versions that I have run on the Joggler.

Testing video stuff with KODI and zmNinja it does better with touch and video.

Note that this is testing only with an SSD ZIF connected drive and Windows 10 enterprise (stripped way down).

Attached are the features of the program I am using to strip it down. So far it works well. Shows the stuff that is chatty kathy.

You do not need any of this to run HS3 Touch. The OS is basically now a tablet OS and is the same for the desktop, tablet and phone these days.

BTW do not be alarmed at what you see because it is the same today running any tablet OS or smartphone OS.

                  Yes.

Except the larger Cisco branded ones have the boot rom chip soldered in to place. So if it gets messed up you cannot fix it unless you desolder the chip.

The PATA port traces are there. I have not been able to get it to function soldering a zif connector to it.

What it has though is a combo bluetooth / wireless mini PCie card. You can replace this card with a mini sata card for an OS. Only thing is is that one doesn't exist that will fit inside and work.

I have tried an mSATA card, MLC card and they do not work. ideally an mSATA card to miniPCI card may work on it.

I have a test board configured for this in pieces and have given up for the time bean.

There are 4 different Openpeak devices out there that were sold / utilized.

1 - Openpeak O2 Joggler - sold as an internet Kiosk with a number of applications written with flash (including texting). It booted with an O2 logo on it and it had O2 engraved on the back plastic case.
2 - Openpeak 1 - Which came before the O2 Joggler and was sold as a telephone cloud connected VOIP device with wireless DECT phones or a cloud connected thermostat controller and energy monitor (with Zigbee) It resembles the O2 Joggler. It has an Openpeak logo engraved on the back of the plastic case. This one is the easiest to modify.
3 - Openpeak 2 - really the nicest looking one with speakers in the front. It also came with either VOIP or an Energy monitor. Most difficult case to open as a special tool was made and needed to open it up. The EFI boot rom chip here is soldered in to place. Stock device came with a mini pcie WLAN / Bluetooth card. Came with a camera port (USB) on the top of the device. Mostly tested by utility companies and sold by telco companies all over the world (Avaya, Cisco, Verizon, et al).
4 - Verizon Cloud Voip connected DECT phone system. A way cheaper version of the Openpeak 2. Resistive screen came with a plastic stylus. Base motherboard / OS was ARM based versus Intel based. Difficult to modify - well never modded. Designed in Miami and built in India (rest were built in China).

For Homeseer touch use #1,#2 and #3 were modded to boot with a USB stick ==> Linux, Android and XP. (there are / were issues with USB booting).

#2 came with a ZIF PATA clip. Here installing an SSD PATA drive made it easy to run any OS.

#3 - tried mini PCIE MLC / mSATA cards. Did not work. Note that MLC or mSATA was never a true pcie standard.

#2 and #3 were sold for some $300.00 USD or more on a monthly contract (except the telcos only rented them but if need be replaced them).

There are two now that I utilized here.

                      1 - Windows 10 Lite

                      2 - DWS

Basically the Joggler CPU/memory are sufficient to run Homeseer 3 touch, Homeseer 3 speaker and a few other Homeseer only applications.

It is everything else running that tugs at the Joggler utilization. Here using the Gb NIC port on the Joggler.

Most of it doesn't really have anything to do with Homeseer stuff rather just using the OS as a desktop / tablet.

If you are just dedicating the Joggler to be a Homeseer console; there is no need to do or run anything else on the OS.

Have a read here if you have not read anything about this stuff.

I would too update the Realtek ROM on the Joggler as it was never configured and blank and did cause hardware errors when booting any Wintel OS. Takes 5 minutes to do this. Read process to do this on the Joggler forum. I did a step by step there.

Writing a MAC address to Joggler NIC

Writing the ROM to the NIC will let you utilize WOL, suspend, etc. It is not fast waking up but it works. Here played with it but today still just remotely shut off the LCD screen backlight at night and put buttons on the the touch screen to do it locally.

Also have another Joggler with a battery backed up RTC. Works great in Linux but I cannot get it to work in Wintel. Might customize something using an RTC/Battery on a USB connection.

Note too that I am currently testing W10 with a 64Gb SSD ZIF drive. All of the XPe touchscreens are using 16Gb SSD drives (well 8Gb SSD works fine too).

The SSD fits over the WLAN stick on the left hand side and connects to the ZIF clip using a 15-20cm ZIF flipped ZIF cable (blue/blue or blue/white). Have only utilize SanDisk SSDs. Make sure you insulate the SSD from the WLAN card.

This allows for wireless or Gb use. I had an issue fitting the RTC/Battery device with the stock wireless USB device. I did test it with one mini wireless USB stick to work just fine.

BTW zmNinja (Zoneminder console) only works with W7 and above. It also works on the iPhone and Android phones just fine.

I run Squeezeplay / Kodi on the Ubuntu versions of the Joggler and now also run a Squeezeplay (joggler version) and KODI these days. You can just create a button in HS3 Touch to load these applications and it works fine.

Seeing an issue here that crops up maybe every 4-5 th boot and it was irritating me as I have kept removing Candy Crush Soda Saga and Twitter and it would keep coming back.

Trying a new fix for this to see if it works.

                          1 - go to regedit

                          2 - look for
                          HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\Cloud Content

3 - if it is not there create it.
a - Create a new 32-bit DWORD value named DisableWindowsConsumerFeatures and
b - set its value data to 1.
