This thing sucks. And in a very good way.

While our current Roomba, (who we named Spot--a 650 model with a wifi hack), has done reasonably well on hard floors (we have tile, cherry and marble on our first floor), it never had that "wow" factor on carpet.

Having owned a couple of Roomba devices, I decided to see what else was around. After some research, I decided I'd run down to my local BuyMore and give the new Samsung POWERBot Turbo Robot Vacuum (Model: SR2AK9350U) for a spin. It's their top of the line 40w super sucker. It better be good as street prices are usually around a kilobuck.

It's larger that the Roomba devices, and heavier, tipping the scale at around 10 lbs. It has onboard wifi, integrates with Samsung's smarthome app (and by extension IFTTT, which opens it up to some light integration with HS via virtual device). Like the latest top of the heap Roomba, the Samsung device (henceforth known as Dusty the Robovac) has a top mounted, ceiling facing camera which it uses to map the floorplan. Once mapped, Dusty uploads the floorplan to Samsung's service and it appears in your mobile app. From here we can command, steer or direct Dusty to clean any or all of the rooms it mapped by selecting them from the map. Pretty slick.

Ok...all this tech stuff is good, but if it doesn't clean, what good is it? We'll it does clean. Very well. Not as good as our trusty Dyson upright, but pretty darn well. They seem to use the same kind of cyclone suction as the better current traditional vacuums.

it's relatively quiet even on the most aggressive of it's 3 suction levels. Scheduling is available on the devices and via app. There's even a remote with a laser pointer on it should you want to steer it around and have it spot clean. (Dusty follows the pointer like a deranged house cat)

All in all I've been very pleased.

How's dusty doing, Samsung is well known for making stuff that works well out of the box but failing after a few months.

Dusty is alive and well. It cleans the second floor about twice a week. I found that doing it more often on a less powerful suction allowed it to finish without having to stop and "refuel". I'm thinking I might move where its' home base is and have it recreate the map. But so far I'm very pleased, more than I ever was with any Roombas.

As for my experience with Samsung, I've been reasonably happy with no failures (excluding my Note 7 and it's replacement Note 7 evil twin).
