Zee S2 - PHLocation

I need confirmation that PHLocation will work on a new Zee S2. If it does, could you point me to the installation guide that is specific to the current Zee S2 hardware and software?

I've sent a request to the developer of PHLocation but I read somewhere that he will be unavailable for awhile due to personal issues.

Any help would be great though I've been having a hell of a time setting up a HomeSeer smart home. Documentation is not very good but the forum members do a great job.

I see big potential for me with HS but it is almost not worth the trouble of changing my current Smartthings set-up for HS. A lot of the HS stuff is a bit over my head but I'm good at following directions if they are clear and don't assume I know all what I should know.

The documentation is virtually non existent HS (or exists but is everywhere, the documentation for the Z-Wave/HSTouch [which both contain a fair amount of info] plugin is separate know that of the core HS application), unfortunately it has been that way for a while - IMHO it should be centralised. I would also encourage you to look at some of the YouTube videos also on the HS channel that may help with setting up events and the like.

I have a friend who has SmartThings who is having trouble with the simplest of rules, I walked into his hallway the other day and the lights were going absolutely mental because there was motion but it simultaneously thought he was away from the home. I'm not saying HS is faultless but you stand a greater chance of being able to fix things than you appear to be with ST. HS needs more work but appears to be to me much more powerful than ST.

Hopefully someone who uses it can answer but searching through the PHLocation forum for 'linux' seems to suggest it will work, it appears a manual install (not in the updater when I checked just) so you just need to transfer the files across using something like WinSCP.

PHLocation definitely works on Linux and I imagine it works fine on a Zee 2 also, though I haven't tried that. Mr Happy is correct in that you do need to do a manual install for PHLocation (as opposed to many other plugins).

As we established on the other thread that you don't have a Windows machine to hand, you will need to use FileZilla from your MBP to access the file structure of the Zee S2. Use the IP address of the Zee as the Host in FileZilla and set the protocol to SFTP-SSH. Use the credentials of the Zee S2 that you established on first boot (per the quick start guide).

Once connected, you should see your MBP file structure in the left panel and the Zee file structure in the right panel.

On your MBP, download the PHLocation plugin and unzip it. It creates 2 files, updater_override.txt file and another zip. Using FileZilla, drop the TXT file into /usr/local/homeseer/ and then drop the zip file into /usr/local/homeseer/updates3/zips

I believe the above paths are correct for the Zee 2, but I don't have one to verify. Note that folder names are case-sensitive in Unix/Linux and I may not have the capitalisation correct.

Once this is complete, I would restart the Zee. Then when it's back up, use the browser on your MBP to go to the HS3 web UI and then drill down to >Plugins>Manage. At the bottom of the list of installed plugins (if any) you should see an Additional Interfaces section. Expand that and drill down until you find PHLocation. Click the checkbox and then Install.

Once it's installed restart the Zee again and you should have the plugin available via the web ui

Now that's what I'm talking about!! Great instructions!! I'll be doing that tomorrow. I understand the concept and I'll work on getting the specifics correct.

I'm familiarizing myself with Filezilla and understand the concept except I do not see where I set the protocol.

Click on the top left icon. That's the site manager and it gives you access to more settings and allows you to save the settings as well.

Check out SecPanel. It handles your SSH and SFTP connections for you, including setting up FileZilla. I use the Unix version but I see that there is a Windows version if you are SSHing in from a Windows machine.

Username should be homeseer.

Are you able to connect using the same user and password via SSH without FileZilla? From a terminal in Linux or from Putty in Windows.

I didn't think that was possible? It would require changes to your sudoers file, groups, etc. The user 'homeseer' should be what owns the processes. Can you try user 'root' and password 'hsthsths3'

I'm on a Mac BookPro so I can't use Windows.

I'm thinking there might be a setting in HomeSeer that I'm missing.

My HomeSeer device is a Zee S2 if that makes any difference.

SSH access isn't controlled by HomeSeer. It is handled by the OS. It is turned on or you wouldn't get the failed authentication message. A HomeSeer login won't get you SSH access. It has to be a system user.
