    Different skill name than 'Homeseer'?

Is there an option or other way to change the name used for the Homeseer skill?

I do not want to have to use the product name all the time. It's enough I'm already asking "Alexa, ask..." to get to it. I'd much rather have "Alexa, ask the house to..."

I'm fine if this requires using a custom skill, I have a developer account.

I think the custom skill is the way to go. If you see this thread at post #85 you will see that someone has done just what you want.....the tutorial is also at the top of the thread

As stated in the reply above, this is exactly what I have done .

Follow my tutorial to set up the skill but set the invocation name to "The House"

I am actually finding that the accuracy of the voice commands has increased a lot since changing it. Alexa has a much better chance of understanding "The House" rather than "HomeSeer"

The word 'homeseer' was coded into the echo specifically for our skill, so if your not using the official skill, it won't do a good job.

I use 'Jasper' and that works well.

(you could also go the Tony Stark route and use Jarvis)

Could someone pull out the procedure to change the "HomeSeer" to some other invocation name such as "The House". It is mixed in with the UK issue and confusing.

Just follow the same Tutorial but in step 3 where it says to select the language as English (UK) you need to choose English (US).

And in Step 5 instead of putting a tick in the Europe box, make sure the tick is in the United States Box.

The invocation name in Step 3 is what you want to change. Whatever is in this box is how you will address alexa. So if this box says "homeseer" then you will say "Alexa, tell homeseer to .....". If the box says "the house" then you will say "Alexa, tell the house to ....."

            Matt.

              Thanks Matt,

What are your thoughts about HomeSeer making a change that would allow/support the invocation name change without going through your procedure?

How easy is it to reverse your procedure? I obviously have not dug into it yet.

              Thanks

So does creating another homeseer skill with "the house" wake word screw up the existing homeseer skill???

I'd like to be able to change the wake word for my non-tecky outlaws... I mean inlaws. They'd probably forget "homeseer" but not likely "the house"

No, as long as the invocation names are unique, you could set up as many as you wanted in theory. That way you could address your house by several different names depending on your mood :P

I tried to have 2 custom skills - one with invocation "the house" and one "fred", but found that only 1 of the skills stayed linked to my HomeSeer system.

The 'unlinking' didn't show up all that quickly and if I remember rightly it was the cards on the alexa app home page that told me, rather than the 'Your Skills' page which didn't update...

                    Cheers,

                    Jon.

Only one custom skill per login is allowed.

If you want to hook up additional skills, you would need addition logins in myHS, which is possible, but requires a subscription to myHS. (Right now it's $25 per year.)

My MyHS login had several devices (homes) under one login. Alexa was not able to see any devices until I created a unique login for each device. I have not seen a set of instruction on how to deal with Alexa and Premium (multiple device) accounts, much less multiple skills on a single hub device.

How would the multiple skills be be active at the same time on a single hub device?

                        Much appreciate your help!

The Alexa system is really not geared for multiple locations. You'd very quickly run out of unique names. Each place has a kitchen, bedroom, bath, etc. You'd need to have the location name in the device name and that just gets annoying to use.

But there's nothing stopping you from creating as many developer skills as you'd like, each with it's own name. "The House", "The Beach House", "The Boat", etc. But then you'd have to use "Alexa, tell 'the house' to..." or "Alexa, tell 'the beach house' to...", etc.

There's also the idea that if you can afford to have multiple locations, well, then you can perhaps afford to set up multiple, separate accounts for each of them. Because the developers are likely not in the same demographic and aren't going to focus on catering to that market. Right or wrong, it's just a reality.

I'm pondering a similar question as I am interested in knowing if the Echo/Dot device name is accessible in any way to use as a 'location' in a custom skill. I was wondering if it might be possible to say something like "Alexa, tell homeseer to turn the lights on" and the Dot in the room that hears it somehow adds the 'location'. Why else have a unique device name if it can't be used more effectively.

Would LOVE this feature combined with custom skill name.
