I just ordered an Echo Dot. I understand I can ask it to control individual devices and events. I have a number of lighting scenes set up on HS3 (evening, dining, cook, goodnight). Will the Echo respond to a request to run a scene?

One way you can do it is to create a virtual device with an event to run the scene if you're using the smart home skill. If using Jon's helper along with the homeseer skill, you have more power and should be able to easily.
