... I've tried disabeling the plugin first, but still no go. How do I make sure the plugin is "dead" before updating?

Just cycle HS3 with the plugin disabled. You should be able to update it after that. I have several plugins recently that I have to do that with. Some from HS others are 3rd party.

That's what I thought too, but it didn't help!
