    Device UI Controls question

is it possible to add a Control (like a dropdownlist) to a hs device that has no affect on the control or status of the device? ie just a user selection that the plugin can read during runtime.

i was interested in adding a dropdownlist (with numbers 1 to 200) that would be used as a duration setting so that when the user turns the device On, it would turn off after the selected setting.

the side effect is that the dropdownlist selection changes to value 100 when the device goes on; thus changing the user selection

Can you not just set the "Enter" to be control only and set it to a value of something like 999 which will not have a status value and the 1 to 200 as both.

when i set the device to value 0, it affects the dropdownlist selection

Why not make off 300 and on 500? Then l handle this in the plugin.

yah I think this is I would have to do.

I was just hoping I didn't have to redefine my standard on/off values

I had the same problem an ended up using a second device for the time input.

              Yah, I considered that too.

Thanks for the responses and ideas.

I guess the other alternative is to add a custom tab to the device definition, and then put the setting there.

Yes but it is just extra clicks for the user and more work for you.
