    Insteon 2466SW Light Switch

    Hi Mark,
N00b here with the Insteon plug in of yours. I'm trying it in demo mode as I'm hoping it can help get my 2466SW [0736] switch to work. Even if I put my 2413 in discovery mode and likewise with the switch they aren't recognized by Homeseer. I have to manually add it to the system via the hardware hex address. But even after that i can't manually turn it off\on.
Any thoughts on what I might be doing wrong?

    thanks

are you able to read the links and settings for the switch? if so, can you copy and paste the links here. Need to verify that a Group 0 (i2cs) link got written

if you don't see the links, please factory reset the switch, enabled detailed logging on the plugin config page, and use the manual add feature to register the device. Then post a log snippet of the transaction.

      Hello Mark,
Ok, when I click on "Display Links" I get buptkis. So I've had to manually add the device by entering its hardware address. Once I refresh the page and go back to the config page it shows as being added. I've reset the switch, at least I believe I have done that properly, and I've gotten 2 different results when I then manually add it back. In each case it says "Generalized Controllers" Product Type "Unknown", Firmware "0". In one of the two cases it says Protocol "i1" the most recent it says "Unknown". I've attached the two screen shots.

Re: "enable detailed logging on the plugin config page"
Ans: How do you do that?

Interesting... When I go into Insteon\Configuration, I see this:

"** Unable to communicate with the Insteon powerline interface ***
Please make sure the interface is configured correctly and restart the plug-in."

FWIW I also have a Insteon Signalinc RF #2442 module if you think it may be an issue with not being able to reach the wall switch.

      Thank you!

these screens are not from my plugin.

you need to delete any hs devices that represent insteon devices

please register the devices with my plugin. nothing will transfer from the hsinsteon plugin.

          Hi Mark,
Addendum. If I hit "Display Links" for the Powerlinc USB modem, I get:

          Interface 13.AE.5F Links
          Type Address Group Data1 Data2 Data3
          Controller 0B.A0.1A 1 2 13 44

But when I hit "Display Links" for what I THOUGHT was the Insteon 2446 Wall switch I got nothing back. What's confusing me is that the hardware address off of the wall switch is 0B.A0.1A so why does that come back when I hit Display Links for the Powerlinc USB Modem?

          Thanks

            Hi Mark,
Ok. I'll delete & see if i can find a "how to" on adding an Insteon device from your plugin. That could be my issue. Also, is "detailed logging" done from your plugin area? Thx

              Hi Mark,
Ok, I admit it, I'm lost. I've deleted all Insteon devices except the Powerlinc USB Modem. Should I delete that as well and then add it also via your PlugIn?
Can you give me explicit instructions on how to add\register my Insteon devices with your plugin? I've been poking around and thought it would be intuitive but its not. I also have a 2442 RF linc I want to add. I want to buy this but need to get it to work first. I'm obviously not getting "it". Thanks

Adding Insteon devices to the plugin

HS [Plug-ins] tab/Insteon/Configuration/[Manage Devices] tab, then select one of these at the bottom of the page (I recommend the first one):

                      Hi Claude,
I don't think it matters that i'm on OSX because the interface to MSandler is all web based. However, in the forums where I've read about adding Insteon devices to the MS Plugin, all seem to be windows references as they discuss the install procedure for the FTDI drivers. I THINK those are built into OSX? That being said, look at the two screen shots I've attached. I think I need to delete the 2314U and re-add it. Looks like both screens are indicating an error. Is there a video anywhere [couldn't find one on YouTube] that takes you from point A [2413U arrives in the mail] to point B [adding an Insteon device to the MS plugin]? I appreciate your help. thanks.

I don't have any videos are setting up the plugin. There are thread posts in the
                        consolidated documentation that should help.

You need to confirm that the OS can see the plm when connected. I don't know how to confirm this in Linux or OSx.

To start with the plugin you need to enter the 'port' into the plugin config page. for a Linux based system you will need to enter something like the following depending on the port:

                        /dev/ttyS0 is COM1
                        /dev/ttyS1 is COM2
                        /dev/ttyUSB0 is USB

do not try to 'register/add' the plm with the plugin, its not necessary

Thanks Mark, I appreciate your patience. I'll keep banging away on this. That is the root issue here. Clearly the OS does not see my PLM. Under COM port it's saying "N/A". I'm sure someone in the forum is doing this in OSX.
It's interesting that HSInsteon has a COM port drop down menu. I wonder if I have to delete that instance, in order to free up the USB port on the Home Seer unit for your Plug in. I might just give that a shot, then reboot HomeSeer.

                              Hi Mark,
First...Thank you so much for your help. I know you probably are hammered with tech support issues here on the forum so I appreciate your time. Second, I just got back in town & hope to play with this tonight. Short answer is "no progress", because starting with the PLM, the only way I knew to get it recognized was with the HS Insteon plugin, not yours. My understanding is that I need to delete that instantiation of the PLM as well as the HS Insteon plugin, which I have done. So....now comes how to take what you told me about Unix/Linux commands and implement. Without being fatalistic, I was hoping for a slightly more user friendly UI to achieve this as the command line is not my strong suit. From what I can tell there doesn't seem to be a substantial user base of OSX users w my idiosyncratic setup I.e. 2413U and H3 Zee S2 trying to chat with an Insteon 2466 wall switch. In short order I'm going to call it because of the time involved in getting a silly light to turn on. Might be more cost effective to replace my existing wall switch w a Zwave unit. Sorry for the long response but I'm trying to avoid wasting anymore time on this.....unless we can put out a clarion call to any established OSX users here on the forum.
