How to get HS3 to report power outage

So I've had the idea that I want HomeSeer to send me a text when the power goes out. (and probably then again when it comes back on).

All network gear and HomeSeer Zee is on UPS's. I do not have a security system.

I haven't thought about this much yet. Just thought of this tonight. And a quick search of the forums didn't reveal anything, so I thought I'd post hear.

I have the APSUPSD plugin and when it changes to On Battery, I send out a pushover notice.

The way I do it is with a 5VDC wall wart with its DC output holding an Arduino pin high. There is a 1K resistor between the pin and ground. When the power goes out the pin goes low and triggers a Pushover message. When the power is back, the pin goes high and generates another Pushover message.

What kind of UPS's do you have? For APC's, there is APCUPSD plugin (under Energy Management, and there is BLUPS (under Utilities). I have the former; as @cheeryfool says it will do what you want. I haven't looked into BLUPS.

Edit: just noticed your on Linux. IIRC, APCUPSD doesn't fully support that...

So it looks like BLUPS is free.
I haven't installed a non-homeseer plugin before. Will try to read up on this later today. (feel free to give me ths short version).

I'm guessing you plug the data cable from the UPS into one of the USB connectors on the HomeSeer Zee S2?

(also see there is a free Blade plugin that simulates house occupied. Looks nice for vacation. will have to research that.)

            Thanks

              Hmmm, from http://bladeplugins.no-ip.org/plugin...LUPS/BLUPS.htm

NOTE:In order for the plug-in to control your UPS, the UPS must use a USB cable and Windows must control the UPS hardware. For example, you cannot use the APC Powerchute program to control the UPS or the plug-in will not work!

Might want to enquire if this plugin supports Linux.

PS. BLOccupied is great; I have a security system and when its armed BLOccupied is enabled. Then when its nightime, the lights I've defined randomly cycle.

Posting yet another option -- one of the Aeon Labs power meters such as this one. They have been coming up for sale cheaply as of late.

They can run on battery or mains. I have batteries in mine, but am running it on the mains. When the power goes out, it will run on battery and obviously reports very little/no power flow.

The baseline minimum draw for my home is about 250 watts. I have an event set up to notify me if draw ever goes below 100w.

                    sweet deal.

I'm not sure how one installs this without handling a main hot wire though. Looks like it would clamp onto the mains coming into the circuit breaker box, which is only accessible with cover off and hot wires exposed.

The easiest way would be to use your dryer. Turn the power off, put the clamp(s) on the hot leg(s) of the power cord and you can monitor that for power outages.

Wouldn't that only monitor the dryer's power... only if dryer is running?
                        (thanks for assistance)

Sorry, you're right - I thought it would at least report the Volts even though it was off. I just checked mine and I dont see it reported.

+1 for this as well. Actually just installed it yesterday and it works great. Pretty simple, but just what you are asking for.

I am running HS3 on windows10, so your mileage may vary.

APCUPSD works fine on Linux. It even grew up there!

I slave off a linux unit running apcupsd via it's network capabilities - very straight forward.
