    Connected Speaker Clients

    Hello,

New user to Homeseer (Trial Version) and my first post. I have a couple Play:1's around the house and I want to play announcements from Homeseer based on whatever event. I read through the plugin help file and still couldn't figure out how to make this work.

In Sonos Config, I created one Linkgroup. The player table shows both my Sons speakers. The link group I created looks like this:

Name: TTS, Source: Livingroom, DestPlayer: Livingroom, Mute Override

As for "Intercept Speaker Devices", I couldn't figure out what goes here. In the help file when reading on the setting, it states

"Before we explain that we need to explain how HS works with announcements and what Speaker Proxies do"

After reading this section on what proxies do, which I do not understand, I still couldn't figure out what value goes in "Intercept Speaker Devices".

I went over to Tools > Setup > Network and the "Connected Speaker Clients" only show me:

    Speaker: WIN1002 (127.0.0.1): DEFAULT

My Sonos speaker doesn't show up there. In Event Groups, when I click "Edit Speaker Client List" I do not see any Sonos speakers.

If someone could walk me through this, it would be greatly appreciated. I am using ST for automation at this time and it's great but I want more control over announcements and events so I thought I would try Homeseer.

    Welcome to our community.
Ignore the "intercept speaker devices", focus on ADDING a speaker client. So if you create an event, you pick "Speak something", enter the text you want spoken and when you click on that little airplane icon, you can now click on "edit Client list". A little pop-up will open under the "selected speaker clients" rectangle there is a text entry field right next to the "ADD" button. Enter $SONOS$TTS$" and click "ADD", the "SUBMIT" and voila you are ready to test your event. Do note that the name you gave to your linkgroup and the name you use here to create a speakerclient is case sensitive!!!

      Enter $SONOS$TTS$

      Note the trailing $.

          OMG.. it worked! Thank you.

Now, since I am only using the trial and have no access to any Zwave devices, have to figure out how I can play around for 25 more days with the functionality... make some stuff happen with just a speaker. I'm thinking I can buy it up and sloowly switch over from Smartthings. I just want to make sure stuff works, plugins work (not poorly written stuff that occupies 30 hrs a week to keep running), etc, etc.

Anyone have some ideas for learning and trial? Thinking I want to play with the weather stuff ie; "It's going to rain, close the blinds" or whenever there is a 2 deg change announce it. Something like that.

Lack of weather functionality is a BIG issue for me and Smartthings since I spent thousands on automated blinds.

Anyway, thank you and any ideas would be greatly appreciated. As well as, where do I begin with the weather

Give the weatherXML (free) plugin a try. CF Guy has packed a lot of weather functionality into it.

Yep. I tried it. Just to much functionality for me. I couldn't get it working. I must be stupid

As another new user I too am having trouble getting announcements from my Sonos. I read the above and think I have followed this but still no joy.
When I run the event, all I get is silence until it times out and reverts back to its original play (approx. 60 seconds).
                Any help greatly appreciated.

As a follow up to my post above.

I have an NUC5CPYH PC for running HS3. It does not have built in speakers and sound device drivers only exist when headphones are plugged in. If no headphones are plugged in I lose all TTS from my Sonos. If they are plugged in then TTS works fine.

Can the Sonos TTS be made to work whilst no ordinary PC sound output is available or can I fool the NUC PC into believing there is always a sound device there.

Many many years ago played with a Wintel program called Virtual Audio Cable.

Not sure if it will work with Windows 10....

Have you tried just to plugin a (any) jack? Converting text to file is a windows function that HS3 uses and the Plug-in uses through HS3. I wasn't aware it wouldn't do anything as it doesn't really need speakers. Wonder if there is a settings somewhere.

My server has no audio at all. Unless the Android tablets are connected, I have no speaker clients. Sonos plays audio fine whether or not there are other audio clients.

I wonder if it would help to keep HS from loading a speaker client on the HS server, since it is not being used. It is under Tools>Setup>General>Other Settings Launch Speaker Client on Startup - deselect that checkbox. Then either manually exit the Speaker Client or restart the server.

just to double check, any chance you can post a screenshot of the linkgroup table and the event details.
