Way2Call disconnecting from USB after hangup

    Hi,

Today I made a 20 minute phone call and after I hung up the computer running HS3 and connected to the way2call box made the windows audio sound corresponding to a USB disconnect. I never thought anything of it but now the Way2call box will not process any calls. While HS3 was running, I went to check the Way2Call setup program in Windows and was able to connect to the Way2call box. Usually when HS3 is running I cannot connect to the Way2Call box using the Windows Way2Call software. If I go into the Tools/Setup/Phone in HS3 I can go to the bottom of the page and hit save and usually I can hear the Way2Call box relay clicking (updating the box) but now it will not. The only way is to restart HS3 and everything is back to normal.

I also am still hearing clicks and dropouts (from another post)

    Has anyone experienced this problem.

    Thanks,

    Ronnie

I have not experienced a W2C disconnect. Is this the only time it has happened? If so, it may be just a "hiccup" that happens sometimes.

    Two suggestions:
    - Look through the Windows Event Viewer to see if there is an error or warning that might be related (based on time stamp and type of error).
    - In Device Manager, expand the USB controllers section to see if any USB hubs are reporting a problem.

Here too have not experienced a W2C disconnect unless I am playing in Homeseer with the configuration which is low on the WAF or during a thunderstorm with lightning.

I have the W2C device these days on a one separate UPS and HS on a different UPS. I have recently seen though lightning / blinks in house electric and this has caused a disconnect of the USB device in HS. I am testing right now and doing direct USB computer connections where as old standard for me was using a powered Digi USB hub. I am wondering if this might be an issue.

      Testing==> HS ==> USB active extender (35 feet) ==> W2C (powered locally).

Old way was ==> HS ==> USB active extender (35 feet) ==> Digi 7 port active USB hub ==> W2C (locally powered).

Both methods above have the USB extender cable running along electrical conduit. (over 10 years).

I am trying to get back to the my old way of using a single USB connection from HS to all USB and serial ports (using Digi USB active hubs and Digi 8 port Edgeports).

I have checked the Windows Event viewer and the USB Device Manager and I don't see any errors or concerns. (Thank You) It is just so odd that as soon as I hung up, the W2C box disconnected from the computer. The USB its connected directly into the computer motherboard. I do have the W2C box powered by the AC transformer. Maybe a bad W2C box??

        Thanks,

        Ronnie

Check maybe on the AC Transformer power with and without a load.

I have had the two I have powered and on now for over 10 years 24/7.

          Which Windows OS?

I will give that a try. I am running Windows 10. I am also going to try to reverse the phone lines tip and ring. I have had the tip and ring reversal cause problems several time in my life with alarm systems and phone circuits, this might be another one causing problems.

            Thanks for the response.

Here doing a sort of hybrid set up...

Copper(1), VOIP(2) and cellular(1) all going to a Panasonic configuration with a multiline Panasonic wireless base / phones. VOIP is Ooma / 2 lines and I have had issues with it.

Relating to your alarm stuff copper is best, VOIP is not really good and cellular works OK as a backup. In my state AT&T doesn't want to maintain old copper these days and is trying to get out of it. (IE in my subdivision they went to selling their wares using the Comcast coaxial cable wired in to the subdivision while I insisted on keeping my copper).

There will be a time though that copper goes away. In FL Verizon replaced the copper with fiber and it worked OK with the alarm stuff.

The W2C box works best with copper.
