Help with Vista 20p panel wiring

The prior owner wired 2 doors to Zone 1. I want them on separate zone, there are 4 unused zones right now. (see attached image)

The two door sensors are wired in series and connected to the panel with a resistor.

I've never wired a panel before so...

Anything I need to know before I separate them to place one of them on its own zone?

Do I need to program something into the panel to make the door sensor work on the new zone?

    thx for the help

I have only wireless zones (zones 1-8 disabled) but I understand the overall system & programming reasonably well. So if you have issues don't hesitate to ask.

Guys, I've tried several times and I'm not getting the responses I expect. I only need to program 1 zone, this is killing me. Anyone know what if going on or can help walk me through this on the phone?

            here's what's happening...

            <Installer Code> 800

            keypad screen shows: 20

            *56

            keypad screen shows: 01

... from here I've tried entering 1 or * or anything; always the same outcome...

screen shows 01 until I push a button
then screen blanks until I push a button
            then 10 then blank then 01 then 02 then 04 then 0E

I've tried both wired keypads, same outcome.

            thx for the help!

I have it and have read that and watched several videos...

After I type *56 and see "20" on screen, I expect to see "SET TO CONFIRM?" and then "ENTER ZN NUM" but not seeing these -- just shows "01"

                ... what am I'm missing?

Do you know the model number of your keypad? Is it a full alphanumeric one?

There is a 'virtual' keypad program available from the ad2usb folks - I have it installed on my HS3 box. Might be an option if your keypad isn't full alphanum.

Check http://www.alarmdecoder.com/catalog/...products_id/29, then click software (I'm getting that blocked here at work so can't see for sure. I'll look again when I get home).

have you tried rebooting the panel? power down the alarm and restart

maybe the "01" is the current value for the "set to confirm" question. If you press * what happens?

                      I have a 6160

I dont have an AD2USB and the virtual keypad app looks like its $20. For the cost of the device alone I could buy a Vera Plus and use the free plugin that has a virtual keyboard built-in. ;-) Maybe I should have kept my Vera Plus.

                        ltek,

there is a free virtual keypad app for windows. you were looking at a programming app.

                        https://www.alarmdecoder.com/wiki/in...Decoder_Keypad

are you planning on using the ad2usb and this plugin once you get the zone programming resolved?

i only ask because there are other DIY alarm forums that will give you better support if you only need programming support.

I DLd the virtual keyboard app, looks like it requires an ad2usb. Which I don't have.

I have an EVL3 which is basically a networked version of the ad2usb. Makes it much easier to connect to the panel since it doesnt need to be near my HS3 PC... which in my case is 30 feet in a different room.

Maybe Spud will be nice and add a virtual keyboard in this EVL plugin.

Not sure but local programming could be locked out.
See *88 in the programming manual- option 3
                            “lockout local programming”

                            Was this an ADT install?

I have the 6160 panel as well.

                              When I enter <installer code> 800, display shows
                              Installer Code
                              ...................... 20

                              Then enter *56, display shows
                              Set to Confirm?
                              0=No 1=Yes ................. 0

                              Enter 1, display shows
                              Enter Zn Num.
                              (00-Quit).................... 01
