    Samsung S8: no tracking with EgiGeoZone

    Running out of ideas. Switched from a Samsung S4 to an S8. EgiGeoZone fence and tracking tests are OK. Fences report fine to HS, but I see no log entries for tracking after driving around for 30 min.

    I have 'access the internet through mobile network' set, made sure EgiGeoZone is not put to sleep.

    My first thought was a sleep issue with the phone, maybe I missed some new setting with Android 7.0 and the S8, but EgiGeoZone reports fence exits and entries to HS, so it's alive.

    I've set EgiGeoZone to debug and will see what it transmits on my next ride.

    Anybody using EgiGeoZone on an S8 without issue?

    I have issues on my S7 where the app just quits reporting. I have to go into the app select my Profile and hit save about every two days to keep it working.

      This sounds to be a battery optimization issue. Check if the app is taken out from the battery optimization (Smart Manager)

        My Power saving mode is in the Off position and below that there is a section that has a Save Power button that states "Tap SAVE POWER to stop these apps from using your battery while you are not using them. None of them are checked so as far as I know this isn't enabled.

          Not sure if this is an option on S7, but on S8, you can flag an app as "unmonitored". This way, it will never show up in a list power save candidates.

          The fact that you need to "... hit save about every two days to keep it working ...", sounds like it's time to set the app to debug for a while and see if there is any pattern when the app becomes inactive.

            @egmontr,

            I know this forum is not the ideal place to do a EgiGeoZone feature request, but I'm interested to hear comments from other PHL users.

            When I set up the app and do a fence/tracking test, I subconsciously deduct that tracking is active, which it is not. And then I spend hours figuring out why tracking does not work. To me the off page to set it is not obvious: I tend to perceive that grey border as a separator between two sections of the screen.

            This has happened to me 4-5 times over time. And because each of those installations occur 6-12 months apart, I keep forgetting what I did wrong last time (maybe age is also a factor...)

            So, request #1: When a user sets up a profile where a "URL for tracking" is specified, please put out a warning if tracking has not yet been activated in a fence definition.

            As I write this, I'm asking myself: why is tracking activation done in a fence definition instead of in the server profile for tracking?

            So, request #2: if #1 doesn't make it, then move the tracking specifications in the server profile, just below the "URL for tracking" section.

              I will put this feature request on my list.

              This is not a good idea, because the profile can be used in different fences, with different requirements.
