    Comcast

I have currently Verizon and thinking of switching to Comcast. What is your opinion in regards to Comcast, good or bad experiences, etc. I also have a cable card, how difficult is to move it over to Comcast, is customer support ok? You can buy your own modem, I have tomato, how difficult is to integrate it with your network.. Any insight or ideas are greatly appreciated.

This should really be moved into the "off topic" area as it has little to do with HomeSeer and surrounding business.

To answer your question, Comcast is expensive but fine. I have had them for Internet since August 2000. Cable cards are the same no matter where one goes. Just be very clear what you want and how much you're willing to pay. Be careful for the annual 12 month agreements. Not something I would do.

Keep in mind that you can always re-negotiate with Comcast on pricing....

Do you currently have FIOS? If so I'd stick with it. My mother is about 20 miles due west of Boston and she has FIOS. I'm jealous. I'm stuck with Comcast. The company is evil. We were going to get FIOS in the city where I live but Comcast bought the local government. I don't trust them as far as I can throw them. Aren't they year after year voted the least favored company by consumers in the U.S.?

As F-S stated, if you have FiOS then you should think twice about moving to Comcast, this is especially true if you are recording shows outside of WMC.

You will most likely run into many, many more channels that are NOT 0x00 (Copy Freely).

Here have used Comcast for many many years. Today it is only for Internet. No time contract and I have called them to lower my monthly rates...they have a couple of times.

Using DTV Satellite for TV and OTA. (also from the beginning of DTV). I have had also used DISH with DTV and now that AT&T owns DTV probably will go to DISH.

AT&T has been a bit aggressive to get rid of my grandfathered account and update to the newest stuff here and noticed too that they charge for any truck roll even
even leasing their stuff (DVRs et al). What a joke.

Always have purchased my modem for use with Comcast and have always gone a la carte with a separate router and APs (also used DD-WRT a while ago).

Maybe have had 3-4 truck rolls in the last 20 years or so.

I also had Verizon FIOS when first offered in a second home.

I guided the installer in the installation as he started doing the install in a willy nilly fashion; stopped him and told him what to do and basically leave
if he didn't follow my direction. Back then it was a one year package deal at $99.99 per month which went to close to $199.99 per month a year later.
Just relating to the phone stuff it went right back to the same prices that Verizon was charging for the copper lines.

Never called Verizon and never had any issues except when they switched over to Frontier a couple of years ago. Frontier reset the modem to new,
messed with my network and slammed the account. I filed an AG complaint bugging the state until everything was back in order. (took 2 weeks)

Then I canceled the account with Frontier and decided never to deal with them again.

That said and similar has happened across the country with Frontier's ISP expansion.

You can still get an Internet only deal except that most of the providers are still bundling packages (and they were sued about this a few years back).

I do not think they care anymore (packages are there but sort of hidden) as even when they are sued they have a lock or monopoly on the market and the losses associated with the suits are way
              less then their profit margins.

And the deals now mostly relate to 3 year contract locks and an auto debit to insure that you abide by the rules cellular phone contract like.
