Conbee on windows vs Raspbee on Rpi3b

    hi,

I would like to have some opinions here.

My hs3 pc has 16 of ram ddr4 2133ghz and a i5 6600 with turboboost desactivated , and a 128gb ssd. I also run a plex server on it ( but all movie can direct play), and the kodi app.

I also have a raspberry pi 3b ( with a sd card obviously)

I wonder what of the two option would be better to run Deconz?

Will it be faster on windows with the usb stick, or less prone to crash ?

Does it runs good on the Rpi3b with the raspbee? it is a cheaper option and you can place the RPI where you want.

I won't have a lot of device for now.. but in the future i will surely add more. So i wonder if the better specs of a pc can change something with more device and more zigbee traffic. And can a sd card limits performance ( in this particular case) vs a SSD ?

    thank you.
    Matt

    Another question.

is there any plan from dresden-elektronik to be able to update philips node with deconz, or it will never happens?

I have the RPi3 (not B) with the deCONZ raspbee. It has never crashed nor misbehaved. It's the only thing I use the Rpi for. CPU utilization is usually at 5% or less. FWIW, I use VNC to log into the Rpi from my desktop and even with VNC there is negligible increase in CPU.

I also have a Conbee for an older Pentium 1.9GHZ, 4GB ram with 1TB HDD. It's a HP mini PC. It is adequate for what it does (barely) so I decided to get the RPi and not tax the HP any more than I needed to.

I have two dedicated RPi3's with RaspBee boards and I have never had a problem with either one. They provide a Raspbian image, so there really isn't much to do except write that image to an SD card and boot. I decided on two because of coverage. My primary HS3 server is also Linux, Ubuntu on a rock64.

But what i do not like about the pi is the ethernet 10/100 input
What is it you don't like about it?

I have the same concern with the Hue firmware updates. I actually moved some lights back to the Hue bridge from deCONZ. Having a mixed environment seems to work fine. I have two deCONZ bridges and one Hue bridge defined in JowiHue.

I am here running all three variations, RaspBee, ConBee and the Philips Hue bridge.

The Philips firmware for bulbs cannot yet be updated with the OTAU plugin from deCONZ. They do update firmware for the IKEA bulbs, dresden lights, Ubisys and I believe some steps are taken for OSRAM as well.
Philips cannot be upgraded as Philips is not allowing this to be done with other devices then the Philips bridge.

So if you want to stay current with the firmware of Philps you have to add a philips bridge. Question is if you need this though, once all is is working as needed....

What I did for the latest update with the bulbs was re-attaching the philips bridge and moving the lights with plugin active back to the philips bridge. Waited for quite some hours untill all lights were upgraded and moved the lights back to deCONZ and deactivated the bridge again. It works, but it takes quite some time

I hope Philips will release firmware publicly next time... then deONZ can support it too.

                  Thanks,

What is your favorite method ? Conbee on windows or rasbee?

And for the hubridge , is it possible to get the nodes parirwd on the bridge at the same time as on deconz? I doubt not, so this would be a very painfull process haha.

                    Summerguy,

No, a light can only be connected to one Coordinator at a time (either philips or deCONZ gateway).

I do not really have a favorite here, it really depends on your needs. The conBee enables it to use it all on one HS machine, so you need to only maintain one machine.

The raspbee's advantage would be one of availibilty, where the raspbee can still control your lights, even when the HS machine is burned somehow... you can still acces Phoscon and make sure your lights will still work without HS.
Both scenarios appeal to me, with a small advantage for the raspBee as spreaded risks...

Has anyone been able to run the RaspBee variant on Rock64? I tried but it doesn't seem to boot
