What Thermostats Does Everyone Use with HS?

I am needing to get a thermostat and I am wondering what brand and PI everyone is using. I can use both z-wave and zigbee so both are open for consideration. I would like to keep the cost down so probably nest and a few others would be out of my range. Thanks

I have basboard heaters and no central A/C. So I was limited. I chose StelPro heater thermostats. They are z-wave, work well with HS3. They are direct wire 240V. Limitation is they do NOT support forced air.

Since then StelPro has released a ZigBee model that does support Forced Air but I have no experience with it as I can't use that feature anyways.

For A/C I have window units. For those I have Z-Wave power plugs connected to each and then I use events triggered off of the Heater thermostat current temperature. If it gets warm the A/C turns off. When the temp is below a number the A/C turns off. I have this setup for each room with different parameters as each room has a different temp profile. Currently this is kinda static as the temp threshold is set in the event. I'm looking to see if I can use the SetPoint on the thermostat to be my level in the event so if the setpoint is below the current temperature then turn on the A/C. I'm sure it's possible, I just haven't spent the time to play with it.

I found the STZ402+ (zigbee) which supports forced air systems and the STZW402+ (z-wave) which does not support forced air systems. Weird. thanks

I have 8 GoControl TBZ-48 Thermostats. I started in 2014 with 8 2gic CT100. I replaced them in December 2017 due to 2 problems. 1) from time to time one of the 8 would lock up, requiring a hard reset and 2) the operating state was not reporting status. I liked the humidity reading of the CT100s, but opted for the GoControl to get full reporting of all the child devices and stability. If the CT100s would'nt lock up, I would have kept them and continued polling the operating state child. After 6 months the TBZ-48 has been great. My also likes that the backlight can be on all of the time as a nightlight and to make it easier to see across the room.

Thanks Randy. I had that one on my list to look at. Does it need a PI? I have found this one. https://www.amazon.com/GoControl-The...ave+thermostat

That is the thermostat. It doesn't need a plug-in, but I use BLStat. I used that plug-in with the CT100s as well.

Ok, thanks. I took a look at BLStat. Looks like it will give more choices for control.

I use the Nest thermostats. I just really like the UI. Using the plugin it integrates tightly with HS3, I use it for temperature reporting, etc, to trigger other devices.

Our state has a utility program where you can buy thermostats at deeply discounted prices. I think I got one of my Ecobees for $50. Might want to start there...

The Ecobee 3 Lites are $150. I like them better than my 4.
