    ONVIF camera's

    Hello,

I have a doorbell camera and I realy like to sent a picture to my email adres if someone is ringing the doorbell.

Is it possible some way to make photos from a ONVIF IPCamera with NetCam?

    #2
    It is.

ONVIF is the new standard for any IP camera. Many companies have just started to incorporate said standard. For a couple of years many companies where doing their own ONVIF standards.

Netcam doesn't really support ONVIF but rather just a basic JPG still of the camera in question. The program / plugin was posted for use in the Homeseer 2 days along now with the Homeseer 3 days. It works but not really that fast.

So to set up your JPG grab just find out the HTML line you need for a JPG still grab and use that information for the configuration of Netcam.

Here is an example of what I did for one of my cameras to be incorporated in to NetCam.
Note here use Zoneminder as my CCTV NVR and do not go right to the camera. Zoneminder is configured for all of the CCTV cameras.

    Camera Name: HouseS
    Camera URL: hxxp://192.168.244.166/cgi-bin/nph-zms?mode=single&monitor=6&scale=100&user=touch&pass=password

The URL captures one JPG image.

What specific camera manufacturer and model of camera are you using?

      Hello Pete,

      Thank you for your reply.

I have some brandless Chinese doorbell camera with only a ONVIF stream. type number is 998-662H-1V1

If I run a port scan, I only have Port 554 rtsp (Real time Stream Protocol)
      And 5000 upnp.

Maybe someone knows a (free) software package where I can connect to an onvif camera and convert it out as a JPEG stream?

        BlueIris...

Which camera do you have? Curious... Might buy one.
HomeSeer 2, HomeSeer 3, Allonis myServer, Amazon Alexa Dots, ELK M1G, ISY 994i, HomeKit, BlueIris, and 6 "4k" Cameras using NVR, and integration between all of these systems. Home Automation since 1980.

You can run Zoneminder on an RPi2-3. It will convert the stream to jpg.

How to install ZoneMinder on Raspberry PI 1 or 2 with Raspbian 8.1 (Jessy) 64 bit

I am curious too relating to the camera. Here I have the doorbell in the wooden frame side panel of the front door and have been looking for small doorbell camera.

There is an open source Onvif utility that will query an Onvif camera's streams.

For the one's who is curious about the camera:
              http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/41ZjhcX0qrL.jpg

I have to say, if someone is at the door, and it is a bright sunny day, you'll only see a silhouette of person at the door.

And sometimes the app is not responding when someone rings the doorbell.
              The App is Gview PRO

Blue Iris is for a DVR system as far I know.

I'll look further about zoneMinder in the weekend

Thank you everyone for the tips.

                Thank you Julian!!!

you'll only see a silhouette of person at the door.

Small HD IP cameras are becoming little computers these days. They even have a bios. The automatic switching of virtual lenses is related to the CPU on the camera. The whole world of video algorithms relating to detecting motion is changing. It is getting better. A combo PIR helps detect motion on a camera (say with IR and microwave dual stuff). I have though always had issues with outdoor cameras even using PIR in my combo Optex cameras.

Yup Blue Iris is very popular in the Windows world of NVR's while Zoneminder is very popular in the Linux world.

There is some chatter these days on Homeseer's sister site called Cocoontech relating to CCTV and the use of software and firmware NVRs.
In the world of firmware NVR's there is now the el cheapo big box store stuff and the commercial security stuff and the knowledgebase requirements of CCTV.

Personally it is how you look at it. If you want pure easy button security then a commercial NVR is optimal but expensive. For home use it is whatever suits your fancy. Free open source stuff and commercial stuff is always there. It is up to the user of what to use.

Relating to many of the doorbell type of combos these days there are built in camera applications which talk to the cloud using a cloud application.

Can you access the camera directly on your home network? Or do you access the camera only via a cloud based application?

Here is a link to the open source ONVIF application that Rob mentions above:

                ONVIF Device Manager

                It is a Wintel application:

                Description

ONVIF Device Manager is a Network Video Client (NVC) to manage Network Video Transmitters (NVT), Network Video Storage (NVS) and Network Video Analytics (NVA) devices. Implements Discovery, Device, Media, Imaging, Analytics, Events and PTZ services. Written in C# and uses ffmpeg for media decoding.

Using MotionEyeOs for the Raspberry Pi here. Worth looking at. Full motion detection, notification built in and very easy to configure A very lightweight program all round.

Another option is an old unused Android phone running IP Webcam. Good quality video in mjpeg too

Here a couple of years back put a small 4.5" Android tablet inside of my Parrot's cage using an IP Webcam. Worked and my parrot did not eat the camera.

Relating to my front door cam stuff have a side on brick mounted Optex, over head wide angle IP HD camera two stories up and a front of the house facing HD IP. I can see a lot on the side mounted on brick camera.

Here looking for something the size of my small doorbell (1" X 2") as mounting a doorbell on brick will be an issue and I am not looking for a wireless or cloud solution at this time. (might be best to just hack a small camera). I can probably install a pinhole wide angle HD IP camera in the current doorbell button.

Doorbell today is a zone in the alarm panel and using an LED ring illuminator. The doorbell push triggers all sorts of events. That said the PIR on the front door also triggers the doorbell functions if nobody rings the doorbell.

Yes you can. I use this link to view the camera in VLC player:
                      rtsp://{IPadress of the camera}/onvif1

Can you get a jpg image from the camera?

If not this is where you want to proxy the camera to a camera server (mini or regular software).

IE: here do it with Zoneminder. Concordseer mentioned MotionEyeOs above which runs on an RPi.

Thinking you can do the same with Blue Iris or even just utilize an RPi webcam software thing.

There are many options today. Personally here do not utilize the cloud for my CCTV and prefer the long math way of doing CCTV.

Here looking to miniaturize the door bell CCTV as I already utilize 3 cameras (one with PIR) on the front door step.

From the beginning of CCTV here have DIY'd purchasing camera boards and purchased my HD IP cameras.

IE: purchased camera boards - original ones were 3 stack, then 2 stack and today one camera board done everything.

There is no jpeg stream unfortunately. I just ordered a RPI. MotionEyeOs looks promising. I'll try it out. Thanks to all for the tips and information. : )

MotionEyeOS is well supported and regularly updated by its author ccrisan. Some great camera accessories for the Raspberry Pi too. Check the Pi Hut for specialised outdoor cameras with full IR built in. Great prices on standard and fisheye lens and can be manually focused.
