Getting HomeSeer (latest Version) to work with Insteon 2413U USB - Solved!

    Hi All,

I started using HomeSeer back about 10 years ago but stopped (I think Kids and life happened) and then recently came back so I purchased the latest version. First step was to get it working with the Insteon 2413U USB PLM which I thought would be trivial (considering it is officially supported). Come to find out that it is supported but I need to get support via the forums... so here I am.

So here are the particulars hope you can help me get going!

    - Latest version of HomeSeer on Vista (yes Vista, don't want to rebuild the system at this point... should work fine).

    - Using the Insteon 2413U USB PLM

    - I have the Insteon Plugin enabled under the setup-> Interfaces screen and but giving "Error Initializing" under the plugin status. I checked the com port and that is correct (COM7).

    - When I click on the "Disable" for the X10 column for the plugin it just give the red message "Configuration changes have NOT been saved.
Select a different configuration area if you wish to lose your changes, or you may make further changes."

    Here is my startup log...

you have the wrong plugin loaded for the PLM. you need the PLM version from the updater. I would suggest v1.4.2 at a minimum (the late free version)

Thanks for the response Mark, I think I am moving in the right direction. I installed the 1.4.2 version plugin and it now has a status of "Interface OK".

Still can't control anything and I check where I am plugging in the PLM which is x10 friendly (I am also monitoring the link with my Ocelot).

      Questions...

      - The Plug-In still has "Disabled" in the X10 column. Does not change on a click. Should that enabled? FYI, the X10 CM11A/CM12U and CM15AUSB are also disabled.

      - I have the debug logs on. In the log I can see the Device Control test to turn A1 On (A1 is a lamp and does not change).

      - Also in the logs I see the following in a continual cycle, is this normal?
      12/12/2011 10:20:21 PM Insteon PLM_ProcessInBuffer received STX 0x52 (Raw X10 Rec):23 80
      12/12/2011 10:20:22 PM Insteon PLM_ProcessInBuffer received STX 0x52 (Raw X10 Rec):2D 00

Thanks for your help, I would love to get this working before the holidays!!!

      Regards,

      -Tom

        Tom,

not sure why the x10 column won't enable. make sure the comport number is correct and isn't changing after you click enable.

the continual messages are raw x10. something must be generating them.

until you get x10 enabled, you won't be able to send or process inbound msgs.

any other errors in the log or maybe an insteon error report.log file?

I think that HS can allow only one x10 controller at a time. Since he has an ocelot, its going to leave ownership there unless he turns on the plm x10 interface. When the PLM becomes the x10 interface, the ocelot will become deselected / deactivated.

            Mark,

I can replicate the same with the X-10 side of the PLM and trying to enable the legacy CM11A.

I can remember seeing the same maybe 2 years ago or so.

The issue caused an X10 com port debacle until I realized what what going on.

Think I even posted that issue here a while ago.

guys, the "x10 com port debacle" is a hs issue. I've reported it to HST, but I guess it hasn't been resolved. Nothing i can do on my end.

                  Rupp,

this issue deals with hs changing the com port value that currently exists on the hs setup/interface page for a plugin. so if someone has the 'other' interface enabled and then came back later to enable the x10 interface, the com port value would change by itself. maybe the com port is being changed to the previous x10 plugin com port, not sure.

i think i emailed rich a long time ago about this. i didn't submit a ticket

In my case it was one part not know how HS should be setup, one part HS not support FireFox or Chrome (I would click the enable but nothing would happen... really!), and one part really bad usability in HS (last I will stay there).

Working now and have a couple other issues to work through but I appreciate the help very much!!!
