version 1.1.0.8 has a bug that triggers the following error when you try to access the config page:

          Code:
Error Calling GenPage for plugin, link: /airplayspeak_config Error: Object reference not set to an instance of an object.
it's fixed in 1.1.0.9, but this version is not yet in the updater, so please use the package attached to this thread: http://forums.homeseer.com/showthread.php?t=158908
          until updater is updated

basically this plugin allows you to use your AppleTV (or any other Airplay device, see list of compatible devices) as if it was a HS Speaker Client, i.e. you can send Speak commands (TTS or wav or mp3) to your Apple TV.

you don't need iTunes for this plugin to work.

you can read the sticky threads from this sub forum, particularly:

but the best way to see how it works is to try it. It is very easy to setup.

It has something to do with Apple because it reimplements the AirPlay protocol which has been designed by Apple originally, but these days a lot of non Apple products use this same protocol.

Thks for the posts very informative. Now I have a question, if I have apple tv connected and aim watching something on my tv, will it mute the tv to say the TTS and resume?

Also is Sonos considered a AirPlay device? If so will you plugin work with it?

no I don't think it will do that automatically, but there is some ways to do it. In the AirPlay Speak you can assign some events that are triggered before and after a TTS annoucement is playing. You can use those events to stop / resume what is currently playing on the AirPlay Device. For example let's say you were using iTunes to play something on your Apple TV, you can use one of the iTunes plugin to stop and resume music as explained here:

No, Sonos devices are not AirPlay capable. On the Sonos website they advise to plug an Airport Express to one of your Sonos player.
