    Insteon Open/Close Sensor Really Inconsistent

I have installed 2 Insteon Open/Close sensors on doors to my house. They do seem to trigger native insteon devices accurately. As far as being recognized by HomeSeer Insteon Plug In for "events", however, it is a far different story. Sometimes "open" is recoznized but "close" is not. More often "close" is recognized but open is not. Sometimes neither change-of-state is recognized. About 5% of the time both "open" and "close" are recognized and that only occurs with one of the two sensors.

Are there modifications I need to make in my configuration? Do I have faulty units? Does the plug-in software need to be upgraded?

    Mark,
the plugin can only process messages it receives. my guess is the plm/plugin isn't receiving messages from the sensors. you should monitor the hs log to verify this.

insteon rf uses the 915Mhz frequency. verify that other electronics in your house aren't interfering (like old cordless phones)

how close are the sensors to the PLM/Hub or another dual-band device? this is required to propagate the messages

please post the stats from the plugin related to these sensors.

i dont think there are any config changes for this issue.

      Moved the hub

I moved the hub so that it was closer to the two open/close sensors both vertically and horizontally. This helped a bit. The one sensor indicates open and close most of the time. The other one indicates open and close about 50% of the time rather than the old 5% of the time.

I am wondering about whether a nearby motion sensor II is sending signals at the same time that are interfering with the open/close signals.

I will dig out the info from the log.

        distance from hub

The better sensor is located about 15 horizontal feet and 4 vertical feet from the hub with no walls in between.

The sensor with more difficulty does not have direct line-of-site to the hub. It is probably about 12 vertical feet and 18 horizontal feet away from the hub and is slightly around a corner. This second sensor was about 4 feet from a motion sensor II and is now about 8 feet from that sensor.

          Log

There are so many messages in the log and they go by before I can find the ones related to the 2 open/close sensors.

For instance, they are full of these:
          "PLMBuffer_Clean - Cleared 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 6E to locate next possible STX

            Patio Door Sensor

I opened and closed the front door. This is the one that had been the most inconsistent. For the past 10 minutes it was failed to execute the omni button event that it is supposed to.

              bad hub?

Is it possible that I have a bad hub? it often has a red light instead of a green light. Should I upgrade to the 2245-222 hub?

which hub model do you have now? what other dual-band devices to you have near the open/close sensors and the hub?

                  another piece of the puzzle

The front Door sensor is also linked to a lamp module. It executes the lamp module on and off as it is supposed to 100% of the time even though the Insteon Plug in is not responding at all.

                    1. what hub model do you have?

                    2. what type of light bulb is in the lamp?

the plugin can only respond if it sees the inbound message.

something in your insteon network is preventing messages from getting to the hub.

                      hub and bulb

                      My hub is a 2245-222.
The bulb with respect to the lamp module linked to the front door sensor is a Philips LED.

                        replacement hub

I have a replacement 2245-222 hub on its way from Insteon. It would be a lot of work to install the new one and uninstall the old one.

Would I be better off with a different model, like the one that works with Homekit?

this should be our last option. i doubt the current hub is faulty.
