Is there a way to use the open or close command with Alexa?
    "Alexa, open the garage door"
    "Alexa, close the shades"

Yep. The easiest way is with a HomeSeer Virtual Device.
Add a new device by clicking the green '+' sign and call it "garage door".
    (keep all the default settings)
Now, log into your Alexa app and Discover devices.
Practice turning it Off/On and you'll see it change on the device page in HS.

Only when you have that working, create an event:
    View -> Events
Create a new event that triggers when the above devices "changes and becomes..." Off or On and give it an action.

You cant break anything - you can do some pretty powerful things .
The key is making sure your device works before getting too deep into event processing.

I can make it happen with ON or OFF,
but not sure if I can use Open(for ON) or Close(for OFF).

If I say "Close the garage door",
Alexa says, "Garage door doesn't support that"

      Thanks for the help.

Here's a list of Connected Home API commands another user has posted. I have not tested all variations.

          Strange...

I tried "Open the office(light)" and it turned the light on.
And I tried "Close the office(light)" and it turned the light off.
But did it not work on the Virtual Device (Button).

Then I tried another light and it didn't work, so I tried office again and it does not work now.

The response is " 'device' doesn't support that"

Hmmmm.... The only thing I can think to do is pull each device up side-by-side and make sure the virtual device is setup exactly like the device that works. You may spot something that is just different enough to make it not work...

At this point none of my devices will respond to Open or Close.
Even though it did one time...
