" You do not have the I/O interface enabled in HomeSeer"

OK, I admit I am new to insteon and somewhat of a noob when it comes to x10 a LITTLE but I cannot get this powerlinc 2 to work correctly with Homeseer.

    I keep getting the error:

You do not have the I/O interface enabled in HomeSeer

On the config page for the Insteon plugin. I assume this is why nothing is working at all but have not deciphered this error. I have updated to the newest firmware on the powerlinc 2 and have also downloaded the latest SDM and ini/dll files from the sticky. I uninstalled the old SDM, installed the new one, replaced the ini/dll and reset the plc once back in Homeseer. Nothing has changed....same error....no operability.

Thanks for any pointers/help. I am still a trial user and only have 5 days left of that trial with nothing working so far. Kinda sad really.

Did you enable the X10 "part" of the plugin on the interfaces tab?

There is a column labeled "Other" next to X10 and Infrared in the interfaces config screen. Look down the column at the Insteon row. Click the "Disabled" button and then click "Save" at the bottom of the screen.

uhhhh, yes... you appear to be getting what you have configured. If you enable the X10 part of the interface you get X10 communication through the 2414. There is nothing to configure because you have the I/O (Insteon) part of the interface disabled, and the screen is telling you that.

If you go ahead and enable the [I/O]/Other interface (that is done on that screen where you see X10 and [I/O]/Other which is part of HomeSeer, not the plug-in) you will then be able to use the Insteon portion of the plug-in.

The Insteon interface can do both X10 and Insteon. You need to tell HomeSeer what functions you actually want it to do. The plug-in does not have control over this.

          Jon

            Hello Jon,

WOW.. amazing response time. I do appreciate your input. I failed to mention that i had tried both:
enabling "X10" only and enabling "other" only however.
I did as you instructed and enabled "other" saved and then click on "manage devices", then "manually add a new insteon device"
Filled the entries with the required info then i get this:
The Insteon device at 00.D2.68 did not respond. Please check to make sure the address is correct and that the device is powered-up. The device was not registered.

When i click the "Comfirm add device" button the light on the USB device pulses 5 times then the aforementioned message is displayed.
I'm i still on the right path?
            Thank you so much.

Different problem at this point. First off - are you using (at least) two RFLincs and are they setup properly?

If so then try to use the "Completely reset PLC" or "Hardware Reset" option (depending on plug-in version) to get your PLC into a known good state. It will take a few minutes to download the TimerCore application into the unit.

Then try adding your device again. If it still won't work then you definately have an Insteon communication problem.

              Jon

Well.. i decided to reconnect the powerlink USB to the computer running M-controls (embedded automation) and was able to turn on/off all the lights.

I have 2 RF units one downstairs and one upstairs and i set them up according to the instructions.. my setup has been working since November 2005 and because of that i'm not sure why this same equipment wont' work in HS

i will try to locate the instruction on how to reset the PLC... should have it on email somewhere.

                Thank you.

It is quite possible (and likely) that M-Control is using a different TimerCore version. This is sorta-kinda-but-not-really like firmware. Use the hardware reset option in the plug-in and I think you will see everything start to work.

You do not have the SDM that came with the plug-in installed. You have a much older version. You need to have at least 1.01.122.289

                      It will be backward compatible.

                      Thanks

                      jon,
just did a factory reset on the PLC-- and tried linking it to HS. Unfortunatley nothing has changed. Here is a copy of the general log (by Smarthome deivce manager)--
                      do you have anything further?
                      Thanks again.

I believe if you use the HS updater to download the latest Insteon plugin (2.16 is now in the updater), it also includes the correct SDM and instructions on how to install it. Just make sure you read everything during the update.

Thanks for the tip-- i did the update and again no progress with the installation of the PLC-- here is the error message:

                            Insteon Plug-in Configuration - BETA VERSION 0.0.2.16

The Insteon device at 00.D2.68 did not respond. Please check to make sure the address is correct and that the device is powered-up. The device was not registered.

Here is a copy of the SDM log (which by the way still shows version .278 instead of .289 which jon suggest will fix this problem)
I'm not going to give up on this just yet but i thought it would be easier .
                            Thanks

You do still have .278 installed. Go to:

                              C:\Program Files\Common Files\Smarthome\Device Manager

and check the SDM.EXE file's properties. If it is .289 then check your system tray and make sure there is no SDM running. Close it if there is one running (and HomeSeer too if that it running). Then double-click on the one in the above directory. That will cause it to register itself.

If it is not .289 then go to the control panel and use add/remove software to remove the SDM. Then try re-installing it.

The log is showing the version number of the one that is running. It is an old version.

                              Jon
