    Is my AD2USB Bad?

    Transitioning from HS2 to HS3
    Plugin worked with HS2
It is not working with HS3
It is also now not working with HS2 system.
Has been and continues to be connected through a Belkin Network USB hub
    Panel is vista20P

    Here's what i did:
    Shutdown HS2
    Startup HS3
    Install plugin from updater
    configure for same com port
    restart hs3
    start monitor
The following is the HS3 log entries
    HTML Code:

    Shutdown HS3...

Tried connecting with Putty... non responsive... and garbage characters (looks like wrong baud rate.

    Startup HS2.

Plugin no longer works.... (same type of log entries as HS3 log above)

CHecked Serial wiring between Ad2USb and panel... looks ok

    Theory..
    I fried the "Transmit" my AD2USB ?

It receives fine... but is mute (not sending to Panel) ??

    I'm lost.. .. any ideas ?

    Thanks in advance.

    Andrew B.

    Andrew,

power cycle the ad2usb and then connect to it via putty. Hit = which should do a soft reboot and then retest

any changes to keypad addresses associated with the ad2usb?

      Update...

I couldn't get the AD2USB to work last july.. but i ordered and installed a new AD2USB thinking that i had screwed something up in the wiring...

THe replacement AD2USB worked like a champ.. so i figured i had had a lightening strike or something.

Fast forward to today.. i was adding some user codes.. and doing some config.. all this work was being done at the System alpha Keypad

And now the ad2usb stopped talking to the vista20p again?

I can connect with Putty... and the AD2USB seems to be fine.. except the Panel doesn't seem to respond.. (same as last time) .. the AD2USB seems to receives fine...
BUt it seems the AD2USB is mute, or the Vista is deaf. ... but the existing panel is connected to the same input to the Vista as the AD2USB and it works ok..

Following is a sample Putty log...
      Code:

The "Sending" is me typeing * in putty.. or trying to turn on the chime through putty... ie.
      12349
THe panel just doesn't seem to be responding..

Note.. i did the = for the software reboot.. and also went through the configs (see putty above)

The config changes i was doing in the system were *29, *49, *65, and *66...

On the plus side... homeseer know knows which user disarmed the system.... but homeseer can not arm/disarm...

My Wiring from the ad2usb is about 50 feet of 4 wire phone cord.... IF i end up buying a third AD2USB, i'll run new wire... would Cat6 UTP be better?

Although... today.. i wasn't anywhere near the wire when the ad2usb "Glitched"... could my existing Keypad be hurting the AD2 US B?

Any thoughts and help would be appreciated..

      Thank you
      Regards,

      Andrew B.

        Andrew,
did you change any of the keypad addresses on the panel?

also, try to backing out your panel programming until the ad2usb works.

don't mess with the wiring or keypad, if you didn't change anything

I powered down the panel... disconnected battery... re powered .. no change

Tried in and out of programming mode ... acts normal... did a half dozen *99s.. no change

Did not (that i know of) change panel address... how can I check?

          Thanks for your help

            undo the above programming changes.

keypad address programming starts at *190 on a 20p

make sure the address of the usb2ad has a unique keypad address. it can't share with another keypad

Should the address of the ad2usb be 17 or 01?

In response tot the '=' sign...

              [1000000100000000----],008,[f70000071008001c08020000000000],"****DISARMED**** Ready to Arm "

On the pluging config.. interface address is set to 1 as well...

Isn't it supposedd to be 17 if *190 is set?

I haven't undone the other work yet.. i will this afternoon.. but wondering if i have it addressed correctly.

if you only have one physical keypad, its probably set to address 16.
then you need to configure *190 (addr 17) accordingly and set the ad2usb to address 17. you need to set this address in the plugin as well.

on the partition config page of the plugin, partition 1 can set to either address 16 or 17 since both addresses see partition 1 messages from panel.

addresses 0 to 15 are for other alarm devices

if you have more than 1 physical keypad or partition then the setup is a little more complicated

                  Winner Winner Chicken Dinner!!!!

Changing address to 17 in plugin and ad2usb worked!!!

                  Thank you so much!

I have no idea how it worked in past with the address of 1?

I think it has always been set to 1...

But the important thing is that it works!

Thank you again for the time you spent working with me on this!
