    Echo or Google Home?

Curious for those that have tried both - amazon echo or Google Home? Trying to decide which to bet on.

I have to think over time Google assistant will win and is going to be smarter than amazon ai. But I also am deeply integrated with sonos and homeseer /z wave tech.

    Any recommendations?

I suppose it all depends on what you want. I have two Echo dots and they work really great with HS. A friend of mine bought a Google Home and though he doesn't do HA per-se, he uses it a lot just for playing music. I must admit, it does sound extremely good for playing tunes on. I don't know how well it integrates with HS so I would be very interested to know as well.

Alexa is great for understanding Homeseer commands. The limitation is you cannot broadcast speech to Alexa (at least not natively).

Our Google Home will do text to speech using the Chromecast plugin.

We have several Alexas and a Google Home. If I were starting from scratch- I would probably do Google home.

Honestly, you can pick up a Echo Dot and a Google home Mini for $25. They are so cheap they don't need to be mutually exclusive.

        I have an use BOTH!

I use Alexa devices for my general all purpose voice control and I use Google Home Mini's for TTS, messaging and playing MP3 clips (sound effects) for different events.

As for Google Home "interaction" with Homeseer I don't know... never set it up. I just use them for casting not device control.

Google Home isn't perfect for HA, it's good for most other things. Alexa IMO is "better" or "simpler" for HA but that doesn't mean google wouldn't catch up in time.

I've used GH since release, it's works good for everything I need it to do. The only thing I hate about Google is the stupid "Ok Google" phrase. I would rather call out to Alexa.

These comparisons may or may not help you decide, but at least entertaining.

Don't base your judgement on those videos. Those are very old reviews and Google has since matured quit a bit. Many of the crippled function mentioned on those videos are now a thing of the past. A lot of those features are now supported and if anything, better than Alexa.

I like the Google Home, and have two of them along with five Chromecast Audios for my whole house audio setup. I also have Plex installed that can send my own music files to the 'whole house' Chromecast group so they are not limited to just playing music from streaming services.

My Google Home is also working with Homeseer and it has worked out OK telling Google to turn off a light that Homeseer is working with Zwave.

I have not dealt with Sonos before, but found this article on using the Chromecast Audio with certain models of Sonos speakers:

Oh nice. I have plex and would love to be able to push audio to my chromecasts... I tried on Alexa and it didn't work so well.

I just watched them for the girl. I hope she hasn't aged as much as the review.

Well if she aged as Google Assistant did, it's for the better.

I have a google home and love it. Control the house with it too..
a friend who doesn't do HA loves his alexa as they use it to order via amazon shopping. issue with that is when you say... Alexa order chocolate syrup, it does but doesn't look for the best deal.

another guy at work has both and said they compliment each other very well. one for some and the other for other stuff...
