You probably realize this, but it shouldn't be different every time. Makes me think that maybe there is a communication problem. Maybe you can try on your other tstat and see if it acts the same. I would wonder if you are getting good RF communication to the device. Do you have dual-band devices nearby?

BTW, I will probably be out of communication until this evening.

4 dual band devices within 20 ft. over 40 dual band devices in the 3500 sq ft house.

The other one with 5 dual band devices within a foot is consistent.

I'm not sure what is going on. Here is what the read links should look like...

Thermostat Settings Report Link on "Thermostat" is present
HVAC Heat Report Link on "Thermostat" is present
HVAC Cool Report Link on "Thermostat" is present
HVAC Fan Report Link on "Thermostat" is present
            Other Thermostat Link on "Thermostat": E2 04 33 5F 46 00 00 00

You need to see the HVAC Heat and Cool links for the HVAC status to get reported. I did see the cool in one of your outputs, but this shouldn't be inconsistent. It also shouldn't report differently each time. I am guessing a bit, but it seems like maybe you have a lot of traffic on your insteon network or maybe some interference. Do you have a lot going on that you can see from marks plugin in your log? I don't know that not seeing it there would be proof. I noticed some of your links would report twice. I can't explain that either. I don't know if that might be some kind of resend because of a collision or something else.

Without even being able to read the links properly, it is hard to say if the tstats is linked correctly. I would say to try using the "Update Links" button again, but it's hard to say if programming the links would be working any better than reading them.

I know that I have seen Mark ask people to try using an extension cord to put a dual-link device right next to the problem device. I guess you could give that a try. You said that one of them had dual-link devices a foot away. That seems pretty close already.

I don't know if they would be any help, but perhaps SM support might have other communications troubleshoot help.

I didn't put the times in my same, but my reading of links will come back in a second or less. I can see from your times that it takes 8-15 seconds. I think this might be further evidence that something is not right with your insteon network -- at least the RF part. One other thing I see Mark mention is interference from other wireless devices such as cordless phones and baby monitors and such.

Well not a whole lot of traffic showing up in the log. Most lines are the xml weather download stuff. Only thing I can think of that might interfere is my AT&T microcell but it is 50ft away from the one tstat. Yes the one tstat is less than a foot from (right above) a row of 5 dual band switches in a single wall box.

My lowest wired switch comm is 88% but that is the only one in the 80s most are in the 90% or higher range. But the only other two RF devices I have are motion detectors, one outside that is 30ft from the closest dual band switch on the inside of a concrete wall at 16% and another outside that is 8ft from the same dual band switch at 36% I will try unplugging the microcell tomorrow to see if it improves. BTW the microcell is only a few feet from the insteon PLM.

I think that is worth a try. It seems like they may have used a band somewhat close to that -- who knows. I also found some other info on devices that may be in the 900MHz range.

                  Two-way radios

So, you may also want to disconnect your tabletop wireless gambling machine too.

I hate when I get these inconclusive results. Tried a bunch of different things and seemed to get some success when I unplugged my WAP but it was short lived. Now it is the same with it on or off but still different than it was before.

Still very slow but more accurate.

BTW none of the items suggested exist here and am in the center of an acre so most likely not something from my neighbors.

I also noticed I was not running the most current plugin version. I just updated it.

Well no luck finding the problem. It changes throughout the day. I have always had issues with any RF gear here that's why I was sceptical about insteon. My initial X10 system here worked flawlessly, too bad the SmartHome X10 gear was crap, didn't last and got discontinued. I knew I should have gone with UPB, oh well.

No close cell towers, i'm out in the country, there is an AT&T V-RAD on my corner but don't know if it puts out any RF, most all of my lighting is LED even my fluorescents have been converted to ballastless LED. Not much else I can try outside of turning off all the breakers off to see if the problem goes away but then the problem could be on the same circuit as the computer and PLM which I could not turn off to test. I GIVE UP.

BTW. The 30 DB 5B contained in every string is the address of my PLM

Update the 22 17 A6 is one of my tstats, it appears to be faulty and continually changing the temp reading flooding the comm channel with the changes. After unplugging it and deleting it the detailed comm looks much better.

I hear ya. This stuff can be frustrating. Both RF and PLC can seem like you have to pray for it to work at times. I have long periods where things are awesome, but then something will come up that is hard to figure out. I don't know if it is any better with the other variants. I see plenty of complaining from those camps too. It is also not obvious, then, when it is something environmental or just a bad device. When I get some time I need to call SH about one of my 2-wire switches that I cannot communicate to.

Looking at your insteon log, do you recognize a device with the address 22 17 A6. That should be the source address, if I am remembering how to read these messages correctly, of the device that was sending all of these messages.

One other thing, just to make sure, you are not polling your thermostat or other devices are you. Once upon a time, with very early versions of the insteon thermostat that was an add-on to the Venstar thermostat, you could only update by polling, but for a long time now, they will report status, on their own, when a setting changes. I have to admit that I still keep a poll on my, but on a long period -- about once an hour or two. I though just in case something got missed. I just want to make sure you don't have something in there that is polling every few minutes or something.

Actually mixed in with all the log entries I said "the 22 17 A6 is one of my tstats, it appears to be faulty and continually changing the temp reading flooding the comm channel with the changes. After unplugging it and deleting it the detailed comm looks much better." It reports in around 3 to 4 seconds now.

I do have some polling going on some more critical devices because I have had devices not report a status change enough to make me not trust it. Like I said my system was rock solid when it was all smartlink repeating x10 switches, too bad they usually didn't last to the end of the warranty. =)
