    looks kind of interesting

It does look interesting, particularly the "group of five handsome buttons". I haven't seen a handsome button up close, but finding five all together is intriguing.

But apart from some over-enthusiastic advertising blurb, the product looks pretty good, anyone know what the price might be? Its a particular issue in the UK, where a basic X10 thermostat costs about the same as a complete PC with a big LCD screen.

Well guys, its about 40% cheaper than a basic X10 thermostat over here. And one power supply can run 6 of them. Its a bargain

Nice thermostat but is it mandatory to use their web interface?

Just looked at the website and they have an API (using HTTP) to check get the t-stat's status, but they won't disclose how to control it with the API (you have to use the web interface. Perhaps one could inspect the messages sent to control unit and that combined with the documented methods to poll the unit could perhaps yield the required info to control it? I'd like to give it a shot, but not sure about droping the cash for a maybe ;-)

$300 ouch is right. For about half of that you can get an HAI serial based tstat and control it with HS.
