I have HomeSeer, V2.0, and I plan to use 2 controllers, one for UPM, and the other for X10.

Will I need the UPStart software, in addition to the HomeSeer software; if so, what does the UPStart program do?

Yes you need upstart to "program" the UPB switches. You should also consider moving up to HomeSeer version 2.1.104 which is the latest release.

Upstart is used to program all of your UPB devices, ie define device codes, options, links, etc. UPStart then exports a definition file that the UPB HS Plugin reads to configure all of your UPB devices in HS. It works great, you'll like it.
