No communication with NX-8E

Plugin is not communicating with the panel.

Have set via a keypad alll the settings exactly as specified in the instructions "sticky thread". Triple checked

Have the serial adapter with "red ribbon" to edge of board

Purchased a serial PCI card coms 3-4. Verified enabled.

Connected a "null modem" cable from the panel to the both com 3 and 4 (testing)

Plugin - HS
Have successfully installed plugin after downloading and reinstalling the correct perl build.

Have set Zones 1-8 to s1-s8 accordingly

Have restarted HS several times

Have deleted virtual devices created by plugin and recreated them automatically via the "recreate devices"

Set user to 001

Set pass to 1234

Set com to 3 and 4 (alternately for testing with restarts in between)


Nothing. All devices showing as unkown. Toggle chime does not work. Verfieded chime from keypad does work. Verified alarm works indepentendly of HS.

From experience this is for sure something simple right in front of my face...it always is with this stuff.

Suggestions? Starting points? Anyone?

Are you able to communicate with the panel using the DL900 software from Caddx?

Also make sure that the panel is set for ASCII comms.

I would ring out the serial cable with an ohmeter and make sure pins 2 and 3 are crossed with each other and pin 5 is straight through.

Also, how do you know your PCI serial card works? Can you use it with another serial device to test it? I am assuming it shows up OK in Device Manager.

Is the plugin Enabled in the settings? As AZShooter suggested can you use the SAME user name and password with the DL900 software (with Homeseer shut down of course so you don't "fight" for the serial port with the two).

Plugin activated: Looks like it. All the devices are created. Tab is on the top of HS. Will double check

Null Modem: Good point. Will ring out the cable. Have bought another one today to check it with.

DL900 Software. No have not downloaded it. Thanks for posting a link. Will do that.

PCI Serial: Devices show "enabled" "Working properly" Com3 and Com4

User and Pass: I am assuming the correct is 001 and 1234 respectively. Did not change any of the default settings for this.

ASCII: Have followed the instructions

Set the Home Automation Protocol to ASCII.
(NX-584) Location 0, Segment 1, Data 1.
(NX-8e) Location 209, Segment 1, Data 1.

h) Set Serial Port Enable (Only need to set on the NX-8e)
(NX-8e) Location 207, Segment 1. Set this to 1.
