    Dakota Alert

Curious if anyone has tried out this product?

From the reviews it seems to get mixed results in terms of reliability. Be nice to wire in longer distance wireless stuff into insteon, I have a long driveway

    Thanks,
    David.

    David,

I've not tried that specific sensor, but did try the Dakota infrared beam break (BBT-2500) sensor, here:

The BBT-2500 RF range didn't meet my needs (not reliable through a few hundred feet of wooded cover in my experience) so I replaced it with one of Dakota's MURS products. The range of this system is fantastic:

I have used the EzSnsRf. It has worked quite reliably using the external device code for the Insteon plug in. I used it in a set up about 900 feet from the Dakota Alert. However I have since run power down my driveway, so I now have it operating at a distance of 6 inches, both buried in the ground in an electrical box.

For what its worth, you can extend the wire between the Dakota Alert and the sensor if that helps get you better line of sight.
