I got this error today any ideas:

I have gotten these errors from time to time since I began using the plug-in in 2016. At that time I only had 4 or 5 clients. They are highly intermittent and can happen to any of my (now) 12 clients. They were far more frequent when I was using a boost setup (one unit connected by Ethernet), now that I am on pure WiFi they occur once every few days. Dirk and I worked together and we were never able to find the cause. During those conversations and with conversation with Sonos engineers, we determined that the most reliable setup for me was a pure WiFi setup. Going back to a boost setup increased the number of these errors substantially.

The downside of a straight WiFi setup is that the network must be robust to sustain the bandwidth required by FLAC or uncompressed streaming services, though a boost setup has trouble as well. When I switched to Ubiquiti access points the errors were substantially minimized, but they still occasionally occur.

All of this experimentation and configuration make me think the errors are caused by timing, since they are clearly reduced by improving the communication among clients.

I have a large setup, like Randy, and now I'm up to 15 players. I was seeing a lot of these errors in the past and tried troubleshooting the best I could to make them go away.

First step is always disable firewall or create exception rules for firewall for sonos plugin. I had already done that when I updated the plugin to the 3.0 version.

I made sure every player was on wireless connection, having read that mixing wired and wireless creates problems. I had two units wired and so I made them wireless. That seemed to help a bit.

I reworked my wifi in the house. I did have spotty coverage in places so I upgraded to 1 main router and 2 others in bridge mode giving me excellent coverage throughout the house. That helped a bit as well, but there were still errors happening.

I noticed the errors were mostly coming from two players, and both were the older Play 1 version S1. I had a few newer version Play 1 version S12 in the house that werent giving errors. I thought I would swap an S1 and S12 between rooms and I had a disaster on my hands as far as the database which took me hours to fix. But I ended up shifting the error to the other room with the S1 player. This convinced me that there is something in the older version hardware that doesnt play nice with the Plugin. I replaced those S1s with the S12s and only have an ocassional error now, maybe once a week or so. I gave the S1s to my son who loves them.

I have 3 S12s, 2 S1s and 7 ZP120s. I do not recall seeing the error on any of the S1/12 models, it has always been on a Zone Player. I keep 14 days of logs. Over that period, the error has appeared about 20 times. Each error was on one of the ZP120s, spread equally among 4 units.

I get there messages when I do an announcement every time. I'm running HS3 on a Linux system with HS3 and the plugins all up to date. I have 8 Sonos. The event I run does a save state of all player, says something and then restores the state. I do use a boost since my system wasn't reliable just on WiFi

One data point: When you make an announcement, the plug-in automatically stores the current state prior to the announcement and restores the state afterward. If you are also doing this in an event, it can slow things down a bit. Anything that slows down the process can cause the errors more often.

I removed the Save / Restore. You're right - Faster.

I now seem to get the error if the speaker was playing something and the announcement plays. The music does not come back on

I did a little more to narrow things down. It seems that if I tell Alexa to play the music is when this occurs. If I use the Sonos app to play the music, it all seems to work i.e the music is playing. It stops and the announcement is made and then the music resumes. No errors.

This may be same/similar to what was discussed here: https://forums.homeseer.com/showthread.php?t=192932

Some sources can't resume after announcements. Another example: when sourcing directly from the Spotify app, it won't resume after an announcement and below error is logged. Playing Spotify thru the queue via the Sonos app works as expected.
