    Email Transport

I posted this question on the Legacy sub forum, but got no response. I'm anxious to get my notifiers working again and hope someone might help.
My Hometroller recently crashed so I migrated to HSPro 2.5.0.81 on my Vista CPU. Everything works fine except it wont generate notifier emails. I have the exact same email config I had on Hometroller, and in fact am running the exact same config on a Hometroller SE at another home. I use gmail and outgoing is set up as smtp.gmail.com.465. The log reports: 7/5/2015 4:10:37 PM - Error - Sending email using SMTP: The transport failed to connect to the server. Help, please.

Can you ping smtp.gmail.com from that system? Also, check to ensure the firewall config allows outbound traffic from HS on that port.

    Cheers

Thanks Al for the quick reply. I can check the port when I get home tonight. I've never pinged an email server, but Google suggests that I am capable... Thank you.

Well, I'm still not sure how to ping the gmail server, but I do have this gmail account set up in Outlook on this computer and it sends and receives fine; does that answer that question?

Regarding the port setting, I have antivirus off. I looked at my ATT router and set a user defined app with port 465. Not sure that's the right way, but its all I see.

Still no joy, error msg: 7/11/2015 2:47:24 PM - Error - Sending email using SMTP: The transport failed to connect to the server.

Maybe post a screen shot of your HS email config to see if something jumps out as incorrect.

          Cheers

screen shot attached. The usernames and passwords are entered correctly. This is the exact same config I have at another home where email works fine.

Thinking about this more, I believe that HS2 did not support gmail natively and that you had to install stunnel to get it to work. Here's one post with instructions: http://board.homeseer.com/showpost.p...&postcount=432, but there are other threads on the subject.

              Cheers

Thanks, Al, I'm on it. But I wonder why it worked/ on a Hometroller Pro and Hometroller SE?

Whoops, I was a little hasty. It did connect and send an email. However, if the email has a log attachment, I get this message: Building SMTP message for sending: Invalid mail attachment 'C:\Program Files\HomeSeer HS2\Logs\homeseer.log'.

I understand the message, but cant figure out where to change the directory. This was my previous directory on a Hometroller before migrating to HSPro on a Vista CPU. The current config file in Setup/General is correctly C:\Program Files\HomeSeer HSPRO\config\sample.mdb.

Glad you're making progress . If you copied the config from your old system over, there may be a few places to fix paths. Take a look at your settings.ini file and see if there's anything that's referencing your old path. If a changes is needed, you should shut HS down, make the changes and save them and then restart HS.

                      Cheers

The paths in settings.ini seem correct. The only reference there was this and I think it is just recording the migration; I did not change this, what do you think?

How are you sending the email? Is it through a script? Does the script have a hard-coded path in it?

                          Cheers

                            Solved!

Thanks again, Al. I knew it was hard coded in the notifier, but changing it had no effect. A reboot did it. Thank you.
