Did you have the plugin installed previously? If so make sure you delete the hspi_DLNA_Manager.ini file in the <hsroot>\config subdirectory and manually delete the HS devices that might have been created.

Sorry to read you are the first to have such a catastrophic bad result. When you install the PI make sure you are logged in as administrator or the installer runs as an administrator. Given that the samsung remote plugin was working, it means that the UPNP/SDDS is not the cause.

    Can't think of anything else

    Dirk

I will double chech intall run as admin. I went in to config and set debug and superdebug the turned PI on. Here is the log. The last device is one of my Diretv dvrs. Tomorrow I will try and unplug it.

The GUID that is in last few log entries shows up in the regestry once in a devive entry and onces a root entry for UNDRenders in the windows media plaers NSS section. I will study the entries and compare to others.

      Hi Gerard,

at first glance, there doesn't appear to be any remote control service to be advertized. Does this TV support apps? Samsung does rely on an app (I think it is a default app, perhaps not even in the list) that external controllers communicate with and provide remote control functions.

Here are a few more things to try:

Can you open a browser and cut past the following URLs

      http://192.168.1.210:52235/ruis/Remo...DescLevel1.xml
      http://192.168.1.210:52235/pmr/Perso...geReceiver.xml
      http://192.168.1.210:52235/dmr/SamsungMRDesc.xml

Would be interested what services are advertized.

Second thing we can do is "fake" it. Could you add the following line to the HSPI_DLNA Manager.ini file under the [UPnP Devices to discover] section.

      Add

      urn:schemas-ce-org:device:RemoteUIServerDevice:1=RCR

Then restart HS. Now click on the DLNA config button, see if you can spot the RCR device, now add the device. When you add it, pay attention to your TV and see if the "allow" screen pops up, if it doesn't, try to activate the service in the HS status page.

If you have an iPhone or iPad you can download an app for the TV, if that works, it means the remote control function is there.

How did you get HS to run and not crash?

at first glance, there doesn't appear to be any remote control service to be advertized.

I will upload the XML's but looks like the TV is not publishing any remote control. TV does not have apps and the ipad controll app does not see it either so I guess for TV I will have to fall back to serial.

HS is still crashing the log in post above shows the last log entry before crash with debug and superdebug turned on

            Thanks Gerard.

Unfortunately nothing in the file that might hint it is available.

Nonetheless, I think we should try to add that one liner to the ini file and see how that goes. But first we need to get HS to stop from crashing.

I looked at my code this morning, I suspect somewhere around the last log entry, the PI most be throwing up an error. I'm pretty good at trapping the code where exceptions might be generated and they typically don't cause any crashes. I have noticed that when the PI (and HS) is still initializing, an escaped exception tends to be caught by HS and subsequently takes HS down.

Any chance for a screenshot on the crash info? One more thing to try is to go into the .ini file and turn debug and superdebug off ... just in case the exception is caused by storing a bunch of info.

I'll publish a new beta that puts a bit more trapping around the area where the last log entry came from ...

debugs on or off both crash. Here is the dump from the windows error screen. I also attached a WireShark trace of the startup and a HS log. They should both be time sunk so you can see the IP messages to and from the HS server while this was trying to startup. If you do not have wireshark it is free download and a great ethernet sniffer.

Bummer, this doesn't tell me anything, so no little HS window that pops up huh? Are you running HS as a service or perhaps from the task scheduler? If so, could you just start HS regularly and see if the HS window pops up? It typically shows which error caused it and where in the .net code. That the info I would like to get my hands on.
I'll try to post tonight a beta with some more protection in it.

Gerard, found an interesting link here (http://tdistler.com/2009/04/10/stack...hes-on-windows). You are using Vista, correct?

                    Especially this part:

Not advocating to do this all the time but perhaps get through initialization or get a more meaningful error out of the system.

                      Method A:
                      —————
                      1. Open your Start menu and click Control Panel
                      2. Browse to “System Maintenance” then “System”
                      3. In the left panel, select “Advanced System Settings” from the available links
                      4. You should now see the System Properties Window, which will have three sections. The top section is labeled “Performance” and has a “Settings” button. Click this button.
                      5. Select the “Data Execution Prevention” tab.
                      6. Select the option which reads “Turn on DEP for all programs and services except those I select”
                      7. Use the “Browse” button to locate the executable file for the application you were trying to start when you received the StackHash error, and click Open to add it to your exceptions list.
                      8. Click Apply or OK to commit your changes.
