Has anyone seen the latest news on Microsoft agreeing to acquire Github. Is that one of these.

Wow guys,..... that's harsh. Been at Microsoft for 23 years - it's a great company full of employees that work hard and try to build amazing things.

              We're a Microsoft shop - Windows Server 2012 R2 and Hyper-VM.
All of our development is in .NET.

That said, I get truly tired of seeing Microsoft nudging us to use TFS instead of git and going out of their way to block git in earlier VS releases. Now, I guess either MS will scuttle git and for us to TFS or vice-versa.

No one here is complaining about the engineers at MS. We're complaining about how they're making every bit of software they touch worse.

                  And so it begins:

In their defense Microsoft did use bing to see if the name was already taken and it didn't return any results.

heh - Bing - what a disaster. Only really useful if you want a restaurant location.

All the tech sites I visit are full of people lamenting the death of github.

GitHub can die, but Git will live on. Microsoft bought GitHub (the cloud service) not Git the version control system it is based on.

GitLab is a GitHub competitor. I am sure others exist, but GitHub just happens to be the largest. There will probably be a shift, like there was with Sourceforge. Time will tell what will happen here.
