    Knx?

    KNX
    Hi Stipus,
I seached for KNX on the board, and saw that you have shortly looked a the KNX home automation protocol and products. I guess KNX somehow is close to PLC bus?

In denmark the local electic supplier (www.lk.dkhttp://www.knx.org/

I'm interested, but I need to think a lot about it before I can answer.

The problem is the following: Creating a program (or plugin) from specifications only is the best way to be sure that nothing works at all.

Of course I need to be able to test.

KNX is very different from X10 and Plcbus. Most of the time you need to rework most of the house power system (lines...), because there is a specific KNX bus to add. This is why I first chose X10, and then Plcbus, and thought about Z-Wave.

KNX is a very good system to install when you build the house.... then it's most of the time too late (or with a huge cost !).

As I can't use KNX in my house (as far as I know, maybe there are new modules I don't know about that can plug without a specific KNX bus), I need a test platform.

What would be the minimum hardware setup needed for such a test platform ?

If I understand correct every knx device has a definition wich is loaded into thx. Config software called ETS. A trial version can be downloaded at the .org Site.

If I understand correct each knx Has quite a lot of logic Build in. Ie. I gues The smalest hw config would be an output and an Interface to The IP/ HomeSeer pc?

I can buy That too and send It to you.

This is an EIB/KNX to standard ASCII adapter.
        http://www.bb-steuerungstechnik.de/c....php?id=52&L=1

Basically, every KNX telegram is translated in a standard ASCII string.
Maybe you could workaround using this device, instead of learning all KNX stuff.

http://www.nen.nl/web/Normshop/Norm/...5-Ontw.-en.htmwww.voltus.de, www.eibmarkt.com and eBay (secondhand actors).

Although I am busy to rebuild my setup with Gira Homeserver instead of Homeseer (Windows just isn't stable enough for my setup) I would be able to help out and test things.

did you make some progress in writing a plugin for homeseer to connect KNX/EIB?
I realy like the KNX switches they have a nice design.

Nope. I am unfortunately not a programmer.

I have a KNX-IP gateway and am assessing whether I can use Homeseer to control my KNX environment (lights and shades). As anyone managed to do this?

Basically, this is what's stopping me from taking the plunge towards Homeseer.
