If the PI Developer is around, I can look into it deeper to help them out.

I (plugin developer) am around. I have been trying to reproduce it without success a few weeks ago. Since i have been extremely busy with work and right now traveling internationally. If had a reproducible case or even a hint of what the issue is, i would certainly fix it. I will look at it again maybe in a week when i plan to work on a few enhancements to the plugin.

Ok, so I was following this thread for a while, specifically because I had close to near the same problem. I am hoping you may have the same issue as me, I too has a Hometroller. Under status, make sure HS3 Dev. is checked. Dev is not developer mode, its DEVICE! This may be completely off, but it worked for me and hopefully it works for you. I know the frustration of spending hours clicking a test speech event and nothing coming out.

Reviving this again as I am still not able to get this to work. I see the player updated with the URL where the file is stored and I don't see any errors in the logs (I do see the audio being sent), but the player never plays the file. It does pause the music, silence, and plays the music again. Other clients speak the test TTS too.
I am using squeezelite on a Pi for a client if that makes a difference.

solution for TTS ?
I use four PI3 with Max2play solution. I had exactly the same problem, the music playback was normal on each squeezelite but no TTS. I use HifiBerry amp+ sound cards on each PI to connect wired speakers. I tried to change the output sound of PI3 and it worked for TTS (PI headphone out or bluetooth). Today, I used these settings and it works for TTS on my sound cards that accept MP3 only 44.1 or 48 Hz.
Speaker Client LMS
TTS as MP3
TTS MP3 Lame options --resample 44.1 -b 160
TTS Voice Microsoft Hortense Desktop - French
TTS Additional Speech Duration 1000 Milliseconds
Delay Before Speaking 0 Hours 0 Minutes 2 Seconds
Delay After Speaking 0 Hours 0 Minutes 3 Seconds
I have other problems but I'll post later. PCP, I think you should acquire a PI with this sound card to test your plugin because it's a great solution for multiroom low cost with proper quality.
