    GetElevation OVER_QUERY_LIMIT

    Hello Paul,

In early June I updated to 3.0.1.90 from 3.0.1.84. At that time I started getting message as shown below several time a day. What's shown is typical fo a 24 hour period. Yesterday I rolled back to 3.0.1.84 and haven't seen any of these since.

I'm running HS3 3.0.0.318 on Windows 7. Using just the iCloud service, one iPhone enrolled. Refresh period set to 9 minutes. No mapping features enabled.

    Thanks

There were some changes recently to the GetElevation function but I don't quite understand why you don't see the messages with the previous version.

Do you have a Google API key specified in the plug-in?

    Paul..

No, nothing fancy - just the iCloud account with one iPhone.

When getting location data from iCloud it doesn't include elevation data so the plug-in uses Google to get that from the coordinates.

It has always been this way since I added support for iCloud but I did make some changes in version 3.0.1.90. The changes were that if a Google Maps API key is specified on the Configuration > Mapping page it will use that when requesting elevation data. If a key is not specified then it should be doing it exactly the same way as it was in the previous version, hence why I don't understand why you don't see the errors with .84.

I will have a closer look into it at the weekend when I have a little more time.

        Paul..

No urgency, I'm fine with the .84.

In case this might help - I'm not using mapping. On the PHLocation Maps page, it says:
No valid position based users found! Go to the PHL tab of a user to enable.

Hello Paul, I just recently started using PHLocation PI (week ago) and am also getting "PHLocation Error (GetElevation) Status error: OVER_QUERY_LIMIT" messages in my log. They seem to be happening roughly every ~30 minutes to an hour. I'm not currently using "Google Maps API key" as specified on the Configuration tab nor am I using dynamic Mapping only Static. As with @zwolfpack I too only have a single iPhone, iCloud and GeoFency. Is there a fix?

            thanxs in advance Mike

As previously mentioned in this thread, for iDevices the plug-in uses Google to get the elevation data. The free versions of Google API's have usage limits. If these limits are exceeded then you will see these messages.

Specifying a Google Maps API key in the plug-in config will increase the usage limits but I can't just remember the exact numbers allowed.

If you have version 3.0.1.90 of the plug-in or later installed then there is an option to suppress Google API error messages.

Thank-you for the come back, I thought maybe you were on early Holiday or something, normally most folks take off the month of August in the UK (being cheeky) . I currently have Plugin 3.0.1.90 installed (is there a later version?) and as you advised will suppress Google API error messages. Thanxs Mike

Update: the only option under the General tab is "Suppress Google Distance Matrix errors". I assume that this the same as "Google API error messages:?

Yes that is the option you need. I'll change the description on the next version.

I earn my living from agriculture and mid-July to the end of October is a particularly busy period here in the UK so not much time for HA (or holidays) unfortunately.

Thank-you Paul, I had assumed it was "Anglicized" English I made the change and will monitor for any more messages.

I would have thought with all of the HA development projects you've done to date, that you would be doing software development instead of agriculture. Can I inquire what type of agriculture? After leaving the UK some 15+ years ago, my wife started a farm menagerie with raising/processing Black Angus Beef (I had the day job and was the off hours stable boy shoveling chit (sic) and feeder) I understand the needs of the farm vs personal sacrifices. I started writing a bit of software in the late 80's out of frustration at the lack of off-the-shelf solutions for a specific business I was involved with and things progressed from there. Aside from a handful of bespoke projects I've done (usually for people or companies that I know through other non software connections), its just a hobby these days. Sitting in front of a PC for days on end would drive me nuts.

Although I spent about 20 years out of the industry (not fast enough for me in my younger days), arable farming is where my heart is. My great grandfather started farming in the 1930's and I grew up in the industry.

I would take me all night to explain exactly what we do but basically myself and my business partner offer contracting services to other farmers which includes things like crop spraying, cultivation and seeding etc. There is also a fair bit of technology employed in farming these days which is where most of my time is spent.

                      Paul..
