x10 reliable until now and confused why..

Ok so my x10 and homeseer has been 100% stable once I got help from members up here... it is great.... doesnt do alot though.. rundown.....

    garage:
1 outlet controlled for power tools
1 outlet controlled for air compressor
    appliance module controls track lighting
1 light switch and motion for garage lights

    other stuff
togglelinc switch in sons room for school
togglelinc switch at front for porch lights on at dusk and off at dawn
    kitchen window light
there are more but that is the just...

    well here is what happened...
I have the x10 mini timer... that clock that has x10 control on it..
well in the morning it turns on my desk lamp and the alarm goes on... then in 5 minutes the light comes back on

well I just realized that the light stopped working....
I tried hitting the button on the timer but it wont work.....the mini timer plugs into the outlet that the lamp module is plugged into.... that is the same fricken outlet!!!!! what gives?

I then noticed my front lights stopped coming on and going off
also noticed the kitchen window light isnt working...

I go in the garage and all garage automation works....
got a appliance module plugged in out back for the pool... it works too..
but the dagon window light, porch light and my desk lamp wont work...
so I take my palm pad downstairs and look at the repeater and when I hit a button... I do not get that red light that flashes twice.... so I power off both breakers it goes to.... then back on.. now the light blinks when I push buttons on the palm pad....
now HS is receiving the commands but the units are not working still....
I gave up for a few days now for some reason... everything is working again....
    I dont get it.....

also the biggest problem I am not understanding is why a mini timer plugged into the same outlet as a lamp module wont control a light.... second hs was logging it but nothing was being done.... anyone ever see this problem?

Do you have a coupler/repeater installed? If not X10 is never going to be very reliable. The scenario you describe sounds like a noise on the powerline issue. Start shutting off breaker until you can control the lights.

yeah I have one of these...
X10 Pro Signal Amplifier Coupler Repeater (XPCR)

it is where I was looking at the blinking lights...

I didnt start flicking breakers.. thought about it though but been so busy it wasnt on my priority list... my HS doesnt control the house so much where if it is down I am affected...

but I will try that when it happens again...
      Thanks Rupp

Did this start right around the time you installed that new super-duty server? Does it have a noise filter on it?

I had something like this yesterday, after installing a new Leviton HCA02 coupler/repeater the day before. No X-10 on the property would work. I power-cycled both 120V legs and all's well. The coupler/repeater had shown no noise on the lines but it flashed as though in test mode before I popped the breakers.

Think about this for a minute.... Have you plugged anything new into any outlets.?? New TV, Cell phone charger, maybe moved where you plug in a computer??? Just about anything with a power supply associated with it will be a possible source of noise or signal sucker.
I have one outlet, when I plugged in an older computer to retrieve some old data, I kills a very random number of my x10 stuff.

that is the weird part... i have not plugged anything in recently... but I will do as all says...

I will wait until it happens again then shut a circuit off one at a time.....

that is what is stumping me.... I actually have less on my house electric as my basement flooded and fried 3 computers, dehimidifier and a few other things...

however the one thing that has changed is the weather... so the AC has been on... so i am not sure if that could do it.. I say could as this... right now.. i am shutting off my window light.... it worked.. also turned back on.. that is one of the units in question.... oh well...

I had a puzzling problem once, where it was caused by a short extension cord. Once I found the culprit, I replaced with a long (unnecessarily long - cord for the lawnmower), and it was solved. I am embarrassed to say that the long cord is still there!

You have unplugged the flood damaged devices, I wonder if anyone has encountered devices that, when plugged in SOLVE problems??

yeah but the new server was up and running for a while as the hs was working fine... so dont think that was the culprit.... I could shut down the new server... but then HS will be down...

so im laying in bed studying.... and go to turn of my bed lamp.. I have a x10 mini timer

                      love this thing....
so anyway I hit the off button and my light doesnt turn off.... so I get mad... hit it a mess of times and it doesnt turn off...

so I grab my laptop and it is showing up in the log file...

I use my laptop to try the front porch light and the kitchen window and they are dead again.....

so im fussin with it in bed and the wife turns the dryer on... We have our laundry on the second floor.... I like it there...

well I hit the off button and my light turns off.. I hit on and off a mess of times and it all works now...

so does my kitchen window and front porch light.

                      I do have a 240v phase coupler
plus a X10 Pro Signal Amplifier Coupler Repeater (XPCR)

hmmm now that I am looking at that.... lemme go check what is up there...
Signalinc 4816B I cant find a pic anywhere...
it has like a 4' wire on it...

should I be using both of them? secondly maybe this unit is bad since the dryer on seems to fix my problem?

                      hmmmmm
                      any ideas?

Telefragger, before i converted to z-wave i used to get that alot (the J Status etc). I found it was caused by one of my UPS units. I stuck it on a filter and all was well again.

I second Neil's observation. I had the same symptoms and it was caused by a very noisy X10 device. Unplugged it. Problem went away and hasn't returned in over two years. The challenge is to find what is causing the noise and either filter it or replace it.
