    Media not playing from devices

    Hi dcorsus,

I am trying to config your Media Controller plug-in to a HomeSeer controller.

I have 2 Samsung TV's, 3 Bose Soundtouch stereos, and a hard drive with all my media files. All these devices are on my network and is seen by the plug-in on the config screen. The smart TV's each show up three times. one as a remote, the other as a player, and the other as a multiscreen for the service type.

I added all my devices. When I select a player (Bose for example), I have to select a media source which is my hard drive. All my music displayed. I select a track to play and nothing happens at this point. At best I can control the volume of the Bose stereos if it playing a source not related to my hard drive. For example, internet radio. Which is supported from it's on app.

Am I missing a step. Can you help me figure this out please. I'm new to HomeSeer and your plug-in. First ime user[/QUOTE]

Hi Huntley, thanks for posting here.
The player control screen grab is partly obscured but there appear no media items in the queue (the list box on the right).
You should select an item on the left and click on the add to playlist button at the bottom. Once in the queue, you can click on it and it should start playing.

If you cannot add or clicking on an item doesn't do anything: go to the config screen, turn the debug flag on, go back to the player control screen, click on something, capture and post the log.

      Hi,

did what you advised and still getting the same results. I activated the debug flag. the following are the logs I'm receiving:

Unfortunately the log doesn't really show anything at all. The errors you see if from some device which seems to refuse to be properly discovered and I see no activity in the log of you trying to navigate content. Which debug flag did you turn on?

Also the log you pasted got changed so it is hard to even read it.

So here is what I want you to do:

        - go to the PLUGIN config page and turn ON the debug flag
        - DONOT change the UPNP Function debug level, leave at "errors only"
        - DONOT turn on the superdebug flag
        - Turn ON "log to disk flag"
        - DONOT turn on the "log error only flag"

Now open the config page for your player. Suggest you start navigating from the start (ie root I guess), navigate to your content, select the content in the left pane, click on add item button at the bottom. The item should now show up in your right pane. Click on the item in the right pane.

Now go back to the plugin config and TURN OFF the "log to disk" flag.

Now go to <hs root>\html\MediaController\Debug and append the log file in that directory to your response.

DO NOTE that the debug flag act as a toggle, if you turn it on it will overwrite ANY existing file. If you forget to turn it OFF, the log file will be missing or incomplete, so follow the steps described above to the letter.

        Cheers,

        Dirk

          Hi Dirk,

The logs will not save to disk so I went into the main event logs and copied the logs from the first click based off of your instructions. Attached is a .txt file of the logs.

Ok, this is going to be hard. The player refuses to play, not sure if the issue is with the player or with the server.

If you cut/paste this url in a brower (http://192.168.0.2:8200/MediaItems/2345.mp3 ) what happens?

Something else to try is to use Windows Media Player, can you play to the Sound touch? I wonder if there is some authentication required. Do you have any other UPNP controller that works with the Soundtouch?

The link opens up Windows Media Player and plays the songs. I'm not sure how I would get WMP to play music to my systems. I just have the Soundtouch app that controls the systems.

The same thing is happening with my Samsung TV's as well

There are some options in WMP giving it allowance to find and control other devices. Where these options are seems to depend on which WMP version. But when set, WMP will find your server (so you can select content from it) and will show "play to" devices, which will be your Soundtouch. Curious if that works.

I Googled a little and see the Soundtouch people stating "Soundtouch is not fully DLNA compliant", not sure what that means nor if these are outdated comments. If you have WMP, set it to be discoverable, you can select content from WMP and see if you can play that on the Soundtouch.

So far Google didn't show any search results on settings; or specific issues with Soundtouch UPNP/DLNA implementation; so short of getting myself a Soundtouch, I'm a little bit out of options as how to proceed.

Are you familiar with Wireshark tracing?

                  Found an interesting post here:

                  https://www.soundtouch.com/Community...3000000GvRxAAK

This time it is from April this year and the Bose tech seems to repeat himself (also in other posts) that Bose is NOT compliant. I can try to hack something like the author suggest and see if that works or not. I suspect other DLNA servers will have the same problem.

Welcome to the world of DLNA/UPNP, where standards are supposed to prevent things like this. I guess Bose is not advertising they are compliant just stating they use DLNA to find and use content on NASs

I got WMP to see my Soundtouch systems, but it's the same thing. no control over it. No, I'm not familiar with Wireshark tracing. You'll have to forgive my ignorance. I'm new to all of this.
