Well now too you can automate that whole thing with an alarm sounding throughout the whole house, flashing lights and just shutting off the network access whether it is wireless or wired.

For a time in an an enterprise environment we did at work similarly only there the person would start to shout in a sea bed of cubicles / prairie dog like blaming the computer rather than the browsing (that no one assumed was being looked at). Geez in a financial institution boss asked me to look at why the network performance was so slow in one office/section with about 50 users. I had found one user had turned his PC in to a game server that everyone used during most of the day which did make the day go by really fast. Another section a manager was addicted to AOL chatting (via modem) such that she ordered herself a separate desktop for the sole purpose of on line chatting.

so an update... i finally got out of being lazy (found a few moments of time)
      and got ipfire working..

      works really nice -sorta..

with some things checked off... if you go to google and search some things inappropriate...

it will search.. google images will show (unfortunately)... videos will show the listing.. but click a link and denied...

so next up is google safe search. a setting you can put in google.. but my oldest will figure out around it.. but I also saw something about a dns entry to change google.com to google safe search...

the only addins i have are..
      snort (oinkcode)
      Guardian

then on the url filter checked off a mess of things..
      porn, drugs, guns, warez, etc...

Here most recently added the Geo iP blocking stuff. No kids here. That said helped dental friend last week as the 8 year old son of her friend trashed a MAC a couple of weeks ago. I suggested that she utilize a service to proxy the Internet from that specific MAC. The computer only uses that DNS.

For insurance here then I would do a mac address configuration on the router-firewall and same for the PC. If you are worried stick a microrouter inside of the wall socket for the NIC and filter the address and DNS forwarding there instead of the main firwall.

A couple of years ago took my niece and boyfriend to FL. Midway we stopped in the mountains overnight and rented a 3 bedroom cabin with internet. He was in to gaming and it became a bit irritating such that I configured a secondary microrouter with OpenWRT and narrowed down his bandwidth to about 128k or so. It worked at slowing down his gaming to the point of him giving up and checking out the resort we were staying at. (it was by look out mountain).

Lol, I had a similar issue with a family member staying at my house. They seemed to want to Facebook all day, I I just shut down the pfsense box.

It was funny to watch them walk around the house to look for a better signal. Like a deer in the headlights with no clue what to do next.
