Substitute Solution for AB8SS with BLSpeech

The company that makes AB8SS is gone and so it the ability to get one so I was thinking how I can do this. My HS is in my server room on the 1st floor and my Russound system is in my media closet on the 2nd floor.

My thought is to put a small form factor with a good sound card and install HS speaker on it in my media closet. then output from the computer as an input in my Russound system.

Then using events and scripts, control the Russound speakers and send the voice over the HS speaker and output it to Russound.

Is this a wheel someone has already invented? Any pitfalls? Is there an easier way?

That sounds like your beat option and should work seamlessly. Just set the remote speaker.exe as the default client. You're going to love BLRussound and BLSpeech integration!

Personally I have my Russound unit and HS server on different floors. I took a cat 5 cable that was already run between the two and put a mini plug on one end and rca on the other. Works just fine and is about 30 ft long.

Getting closer... The PC is setup and has HS Speaker Client on it. Dumb PC upgraded to Win10 Home and has no RDP so I had to put a wrapper program in.

Lesson Learned - Remote into the PC with the wrapper caused the speaker and HS Speaker Client to stop working. Need to downgrade to Win7 or up to Win10 Pro so I can remote into the PC.

Have a Zone called WholeHouse. When I use it in BLSpeech setup, and run a test, only 3 of the 6 speakers turn on... Then when speech is done, 2 of the speakers flip back over to the original source (XM for me) and stay on [saw the other post where this is a known issue].

I have been using the 10 day forecast from WeatherXML as my testing.

What I do not get yet, is how to pass something to BLSpeech. If I set WeatherXML to speak to all clients by leaving the client blank, it still speaks to all where I would have thought BLSpeech would pick it up and based on the options I have set, only speak to the Russound zone I have.
