There are a few posts about this. Here's one where it appears the user got it working partially.

Wow. That's pretty interesting. I wonder if the ir could be used for other devices? The AC IR indicates AC only?

I've got 2 of them. If you enjoy frustration then I would highly recommend them. If you happened to have one of the HVAC units that a preset exists then it maybe a better experience but if you have to manually learn the IR commands it's a frustrating process. The learned commands are also only a subset of what is available to the presets. I found repeatedly when adding the values to the parameter that it wouldn't take and would return to a previous value so you never knew whether you had just overriden the previous value.

Once setup however it works ok. I've found I periodically need to remove the batteries/power when it stops responding (not too frequently but feels like once a month).

One problem I have with them is when the IR and HVAC unit get out of synch (especially the case where the off and on IR commands are the same). To work around that I also look at the power consumption of the HVAC unit (seperate sensor) and if greater than 50 w for more than x minutes then I can assuume the device is on regardless of the remotec setting.

I was curious about these as well. I have 4 LG mini-split units which only operate by IR remote. They have no provision for a wired remote. If these units have codes for the LG, it would be great to be able to control the units by automation. I understand that the LG (as well as most of the others) transmits a group of commands at once - mode, setpoint, fan speed, etc. For automation we could deal with a minimum of two commands: ON at preset temperature, fan speed, etc -or- OFF.

Tip: i was looking for exactly the same , controlling my aircos. I use harmony hubs in combination with the harmony hub plugin. Works like a charm. And other devices can controlled as well. And are even cheaper and u get an remote with it.
