    Vera to HS3... version & plugins needed?

    Looking for help assessing what version of HS I need and what plugins... also so I can figure out what the cost is as it seems it may be FAR more expensive than I'd hoped.

    Thank you in advance for the help figuring out if I can esily migrate and not lose functionality - and at what $.

    5 year user of Vera with very extensive integration into many systems...

    Currently integrated/automated with Vera:
    • Eyezon EVL3 to Vista20p security panel (Integrated Security Panel & House Modes with complex occupancy logic via PLEG; using built-in Vera HomeModes, Native Vera Scenes & PLEG actions)

    Now is the time to make the jump, I did it last year after being with smartthings and Vera for a while. The base HS3 should be more than enough. The pro does give you access to all of the HS plugins but honestly I don't use many of them and find the third party are better in some cases.

    I think you will also find that the logic in homeseer far exceeds Vera even pleg.

    Other plugins you will likely need although not right away are:
    Ecobee
    Harmony
    BlueIris
    Dennon AV

    The best part is you can try out the plugins for 30 days for free and see what you like/need. Happy I switched and the wife has had a high acceptance factor

      I did some more research and have new questions as I cannot find some answers. Thank you for the help.

      WHOLLY MOLE' these plugins are expensive. I'm figuring that I would need to spend AT LEAST $300, maybe up to $450-500 just for plugins!

      • Google Home
      • Amazon Echo
      • Zwave bind/shade motors - work natively with Bali, Somfy, etc... or what plugin is needed?
      • Samsung Smartcams - work natively with... or is plugin required (like Blue Iris?)
      • Commercial Electric Smart LED recessed lighting - does the native HS Zigbee plugin work with these - change color temp, etc?
      • I do proximity sensing (occupancy detection) using Ping to my phones and code in my ASUS router sending to Vera - how would I replicate this with Homeseer?

        Yes the plugins were a heck of a shock and I remember doing the same but they sure do seem to work well and make it a bit easier to swallow.
        Amazon echo works natively as should any zwave stuff stuff. Hopefully others can help on other aspects. The system is incredibly robust and can even be upgraded as you need or want

          I have some of those things like kodi, harmony and garage door controller integrated with my home automation but did not buy those plugins.

          Alexa, google home, ifttt, zigbee and zwave are all integrated to hs3 and are free.

          Harmony is controlled by either alexa or imperihome so I don't need to control it from hs3 and don't need the plugin.

          For kodi, all I needed was for it to notify hs3 of play pause states so I made an addon that runs in kodi. The kodi addon that runs on hs3 has a lof functionality but I didn't really need any of it other than just the play pause state. My custom kodi addon is posted on this forum.

          I guess what I'm trying to say is just because there is a plugin for a device you own doesn't mean you have to buy that plugin. I did trials for a bunch of plugins, but only bought one: imperihome

            I just bought HS... really hope I can do what I need with it.

            Is there a way to use the Vera as the Zwave radio for Homeseer - to HS leverages the devices in Vera in HS Events, until I get all my code ported over?

              Sorry, must have missed this post.

              I outlined my kodi set up along with the plugin zip here: https://forums.homeseer.com/showthread.php?p=1282348

              You essentially create a virtual device in hs3. Enter the device number in the kodi plugin settings, and then whenever the play status changes, the kodi plugin will update the hs3 virtual device status to match. Then you can use the state of that device as triggers for any actions tou want hs3 to take.

              I have it set so that when I pause a movie, if the lights were off to begin with, they will come on 30% and when I resume, they go off again.

              For the garage door, I set up a mimolite which identifies as a switch in hs3 for open close and also has a wired sensor port for status. No plugin necessary. Imperihome can be set up to show it as a garage door woth a garage door picture opening and closing with status changes.

              For the harmony, I didn't really integrate it with hs3. It is only integrated with alexa and imperihome, which are my input interfaces.

              In other words, my input comes through imperihome and alexa, which forward the requests to the action systems, which are hs3 and harmony.

              I didn't have a need to trigger harmony actions from hs3, since all of my expected harmony actions are to be manually triggered (controlling media devices such as kodi, roku, projector, av receiver, etc.)

              EDIT: if you really want to control harmony from hs3, you can do that for free with ifttt.

                Great info, thanks for the help. I'll definitely be using the kodi plugin. I'm looking into mqtt also. I think the imperihome plugin is crazy expensive... Imperihome itself is $7 but the plugin is 40. Seems like the plugin owners are charging far more than a what is reasonable price for their efforts.

                  it is expensive, but it's so much better than what you had before. the integration is great, and SPUD is great at returning/fixing issues (other than no RGB support :-) ). this is actually one of the one's i had no trouble paying for.

                  Harmony is also SO MUCH better/easier. Ecobee as well.

                  As for Blue Iris... you can probably do what you want without the plugin (i did)

                  I came from Vera... had same problem.... never looked back.

                    I need to figure out how to get basic info from either Harmony or Denon... just need on/off, nothing else - definitely not worth $30-40 for a plugin

                    I'm really wondering if I keep the Vera simply for the free plugins that did so much and send status to Homeseer virtual devices. Its cheaper that buying all these plugins and provides the same, and some cases more functionality.

                      Since I use Imperihome, and it works with cameras... I didn't need the plugin for that. the only thing I wanted the plugin for was to use a camera as a motion sensor (my front door), then perform an event. (send me a text with picture, e.g.) You can do it all with http commands and a virtual device.

                      I also have a denon, but only bought the harmony plugin, and use that to control my denon. You don't get state, but I never needed it for my use.

                        You could use BLLAN to monitor if the is online/offline if they are connected to your LAN network and you can give them a static IP/DHCP reserve an address for them.

                            Apologies I was under the impression you needed on/off monitoring based on what you said in your preceding post.

                            If the denon is connected to the LAN network, if the receiver responds to pings when on, and if it does not respond to pings when it is on standby, you could use network monitoring to detect on/standby.
                            You can test this by putting the receiver in standby and run a ping command from CMD (from a Windows box) to the IP address of your receiver with the switch "-t".
                            Example: ping 192.168.1.120 -t
                            This will continue to ping until your press (CTRL + C). The confirm whether you get ping replies from the denon. Turn the denon on and confirm whether you get ping replies from the denon.

                            If you receive replies when on and do not when in standby then this would give your HA system enough information to know if the receiver is either on or on standby.

                            Another option to determine on/standby would be to get an Aeotech power monitor. You could take measurements of draw when the system is on standby or on. Then create a virtual device that changes state based on the power draw of the power monitor.

                            Lastly, there are a few plugins that may provide software based monitoring of the denon equipment.

                            As for the harmony remote It sounds like you may need more information than just on/off. You may be able to script this, if there is an API, or web interface. The other option is to pickup a plugin.

                              All Modern AVRs, regardless of brand, have a NIC that is always on (unless you physically turn off that setting). Ping will always respond. This will not tell you if the system is in use.

                              In my Vera system I look to see if it is in Standby or not to turn on my amps and subs. Turning them off 5 minutes after the Denon goes into standby.

                              I will figure out how to do it, monitoring current draw on that outlet or something as paying $40 is ridiculous for such a basic plugin. If it was $10-15 I could understand... but its principle, not the money.
