Being able to know when to change water filters

Hi. I am thinking about using this plug in to track how much water goes through a set of water filters I have, and then alert me when I need to change them. I have of these big blue filters in line on the main house feed, and I'd love to track real usage instead of changing them every x months.

The problem is the filters have different numbers of gallons through before they need to be changed. If it was one value, I could use the total accumulated amount and just reset it when I change the filter.

Is there an easy way to do what I want?

    thx

Do you have a flow meter or are you willing to buy one (such as https://www.fortrezz.com/flow-meter)? The plug-in provides a really nice interface to the Fortrezz meter (https://forums.homeseer.com/showthread.php?t=192065) but you need something to actually measure the flow to each of your filters. Installing a single Fortrezz meter is relatively straightforward if you're comfortable with plumbing. But I don't think separate flow meters would be practical...

This is all new construction, so I was planning to buy that exact flow meter and use this plugin. The 3 filters will be hooked up together in series, so it's the same flow through each filter. It's just the replacement cycles will be different because the lifetime of each filter is different.

      thx

Mike, do you mind expanding on what type of filters you're intending on using and why? Wouldn't three filters in series impact water pressure?

If it's a whole house filter (or similar) and your Fortrezz meter is simply tracking all water usage, then you should be able to easily create 3 separate events that track cumulative water consumption, e.g.,
Filter A: Alert after every 10,000 gal
Filter B: Alert after every 20,000 gal
Filter C: Alert after every 5,000 gal

They are designed to operate in this way, at least these 4.5 x 20" units are: https://www.uswatersystems.com/us-wa...on-system.html You can get versions that do 80 gpm. If the filters are not clogged, they don't impact pressure by more than a few PSI.

            thx

Just out of curiousity, filters because of crappy water or ....?
Replacing filters is a real pain in the butt as well as $$$ I installed a water conditioner that also acts as a filter, and it backflushes every 10 days.. Best thing I ever installed. BTW, we use a filter because we're on a well..
