    Nest plug-in status?

Is there anything going on with the Nest plug-in, specifically for HS3?

I'm surprised that Blade or another plugin developer hasn't started this plugin considering the API appears to be available. This could be a profitable plugin.

Why do people spend $200 on nest and then use HS to control it? Wouldn't simple z-wave/insteon T-stat work just as well?

Because we want to? That's like asking why would people spend tens of thousands of dollars to remotely control lights when simply walking over to the light switch or adding a $5 timer can do the same thing!

There is difference between doing automation with components designed to integrate vs. not. While you can hack your way into Nest you won't get much control over it and hack might be broken by Nest any time. Control4 who also integrates w/ Nest clearly warns its customers that while Nest is supported (officially thru agreement w/ Nest) the customers won't get best experience or good control over Nest. So this feels like fitting square peg into a round hole ... maybe you succeed but results are questionable and not pretty and can break any time. If you already have nest, sure try it ... but if you are buying don't waste money - get insteon/serial/z-wave tstat.

There's an API now so no reason to hack your way in any longer.

FYI, a beta version of a Nest plugin for HS3 is available here: http://board.homeseer.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1218

it uses the official Nest API
it lets HS set home/away mode, as well as target temperatures
and it monitors temperature / smoke /co level as HS devices

humidity and motion data are not available through the official Nest API, hopefully it will be added in a future version.
